But is there a defense for that body slam when you attempt to put someone in a triangle? Had that fight taken place on concrete I'm not sure Bruce Leroy would have been smiling at the conclusion.

For sure there is a defense, hook the leg with your arm and he can't elevate him for the slam

That kid was really powerful, he lifted him like it was nothing. Hooking the leg may have helped buy he could have slammed him on his neck instead, best thing to do is to let go of the triangle and take the single leg takedown to side control.

I think bj penn has a video for it and it works superb
