It would have been more interesting if he pulled guard with more than 10 seconds left to go...but it still caught my attention.
I agree the main reason that I posted this is to point out his thoughts on pulling guard as a strategy. I think Jones has the perfect body type for RG( plus he throws elbows, plus he seems to have an awesome understanding off underhooks and overhooks because he throws people with them.Quote:

His Greco-Roman background has made his clinch game damn near unstoppable. If he added 10th Planet and the RG to his game it would just make him all the more dangerous with those long legs and arms. The fact he has never been put on his back and is willing to put himself in that position speaks worlds about his confidence as a fighter as well.
I felt like it was more a statement saying "I can do that if I want to" more than trying to please the jiu jitsu crowd. That's how it came across for me
In his post fight with Joe didnt he say he pulled guard because he knew Rashad would be going for the big bombs to try to end the fight? So by pulling guard he could stop the chance of getting clipped....
Eddie has been talking about pulling guard as a strategy for fighters who can't do anything else or who need to go to the ground because they are losing on the feet. I thought this was a dangerous move for Jones, not because his guard is weak, but putting your head on the mat with someone big on top of you is dangerous in the 5th round IMHO.
Meh. Jones can do whatever he wants to do, when he wants to, and have NO reason to explain it in detail.
I agree 100% with Phill and Eddie. What is the point to go on the ground if you have 65% to 35% advantage on your feet.
