Supermatch added to Jiu-Jitsu Expo! Glover vs. Caio

The last supermatch on the 1st Jiu-Jitsu Expo program was announced this Wednesday. It will be a No-Gi bout between submission wizards Caio Terra and Jeff Glover, two of the most technical slight-framed fighters in the sport.

The two superstars are “old acquaintances.” Late in the year 2011, they had an exchange over Facebook where the discussion didn’t involve just Jiu-Jitsu techniques and ideology. Terra posted a comment about having won the 2011 No-Gi Worlds despite suffering from injuries, and Jeff showed up on his wall to remind him that he’s not the only one who gets hurt, that he should stop whining, and that he sounded like a parrot.

Caio responded right away, taunting Glover about rarely competing at and winning Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. Can this match-up get any spicier than that?

Now if you’re under the impression the attractions are limited to supermatches and seminars, there’s still time for more announcements. The promoters have more major, so far unannounced, events they’ll be adding to the menu for the May 12 Jiu-Jitsu fair, so stay tuned to GRACIEMAG.com.

This Via Caios Facebook Page: "Next weekend I was scheduled to do a seminar at the World Jiu Jitsu expo in Los Angeles but it got cancelled because I was told Jeff Glover wanted a super fight with me. So I was offered the fight and was asked would I prefer gi or no gi.

With the expo being a couple weeks away from the mundials I choose the gi, it makes no sense to alter my gi training and affect my training partners (if I could find any to do no-gi) who are preparing for worlds. Beating one person isn't as important as training hard and representing my style of jiu jitsu at the worlds.

No disrespect, Jeff, but since you wanted this fight put the gi on and I will give you a no gi match some time after worlds.

Also if you have registered yet, we still have spots available for our camp. Even if you are not competing at the mundials this camp will be an amazing experience!"

LONG BEACH, California — Last month, the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo announced that Nick Diaz vs. Braulio Estima, Rafael Lovato Jr. vs. Kayron Gracie, and Kron Gracie vs. Victor Estima superfights will be taking place at their inaugural event this month in southern California.

Now it appears the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo, led by event president Renzo Gracie, will be adding two more world-class superfights to go along with their recent addition of the highly-anticipated Jeff Glover vs. Caio Terra grudge match.

In a gi match, attendees will get to see one of the the true legends of the sport return to the mats he made famous dating back to the 1990's. Nino "Elvis" Schembri is credited for his influence on many jiu-jitsu stars, including Eddie Bravo and what is now his modern day Rubber Guard system. Known for his creativity and amazing flexibility, Schembri became famous for using his guard game to attack offensively, which included revolutionizing the use of the Omoplata and the Gogoplata in jiu-jitsu competition.

Schembri will be facing an equally impressive and stylistically pleasing jiu-jitsu master in Bill "The Grill" Cooper. Cooper stormed onto the jiu-jitsu scene with a fury as a teenager with the likes of Ricardo "Franjinha" Miller and Jeff Glover guiding him on his prodigious path. After submitting everyone in his brown belt division at the 2007 World Championships, he was awarded his black belt by Franjinha at the age of 20. This made him, at the time of the promotion, the youngest American to have ever received a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The other superfight added to the stacked event will feature two of the deadliest women in the world, as ADCC 2011 champion Kyra Gracie is set to meet Strikeforce top-contender Alexis Davis.



Kyra Gracie is the very first female black belt of the legendary Gracie family clan. She is the niece of black belts Ralph Gracie, Renzo Gracie, and the late Ryan Gracie. Kyra is also one of the top female jiu-jitsu black belts in the world, a multi-time World Champion, and a multi-time ADCC champion. She is considered by many to be the face of the sport for women among the mainstream media in Brazil.



She will be squaring off with another decorated female grappler in Alexis Davis, who is widely considered one of Canada's top female jiu-jitsu players, submission grapplers, and MMA fighters. Davis is a 4-stripe brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Cesar Gracie and a black belt in Japanese Ju-Jutsu. Davis is a Canadian Open grappling champion and she's best known as being a top-contender in Strikeforce, which is the leading women's MMA promotion owned by Zuffa

Conspicuously absent from the article is any mention of the steroid beef, but I can see why graciemag would leave that out.

Jeff Glover just agreed on fighting with the gi. Have to respect the guy who hasn't compete in the gi for awhile but understood that right now my priority is to win the Worlds a couple weeks after our super fight.
Been both me and him submission fighters, this match will most likely be over before the 10 minutes mark.

O god when he loses i can see the excuse train flying down the tracks...
