Im really interested in how you guys got involved with Eddie and the 10th Planet system. Ive noticed that most of you have a background in other grappling arts to start off with and I was just curious as to what made you decide to start integrating Eddie's system into your game and to start contributing to the evolution.
Sick of the Brazilian bullshit and gi fallacy. I'm only concerned with what works, and what works for me, not being bound by some methodology or ideology that doesn't think outside the box. 'Nuf said.

straight up ability to use this in something OTHER than BJJ. 10th Planet has so many flexible (pun intended) options to work outside of sitting on padded mats and grabbing collars.
I, for one, teach a military combatives class at the world HQ for Air Force Spec Ops, along with a womans self defense class. I noticed IMMEDIATELY the transitional abillity of the system.
Case in point- holding someone in Mission Control gives you a free hand to defend/attack. That can be the difference between life and death in my world.
I see a comprehensive language in Bravo's game. His philosophies are dope, and have jump started my game.

i learn all i can and i also know what works for me and what i can put in my bag of tricks. ive never used a gi so im not bound by "BJJ purists." I can understand their passion for the Gi game but if they have problems with the no gi game stay the hell away from the scene.
My draw was a system that consistanly evolves and is doesnt believe that one way is the only way. And all the views on shit aliens, government, etc.

I was originally really big on the gi. I was training with Renato at the time. Somehow, we ended up training with Eddie. I decided to shed the gi for good. Renato...not so much.
I miror everyone elses comments, from the Brazilian Bullshit and politics to the Gi, to LIKE attracts LIKE. On all these levels and more I bound with Eddie personally and with the system. It's a matter of believing in what your selling (If you'll allow the analogy). 10TH Planet was the catalist that moved me away from the Gi. I realized (The hard way) that all the skill I had learned with the gi didn't help me when the chips were down. They are 2 completely different sports. I was a Gi man Thru and Thur. Pain, Defeat and reality were my motivators.
I'm not bashing the Gi here guys, in fact I believe if you learn NO GI first you have an AWESOME base to play GI. Not so much in the reverse order.

The first thing that caught my attention was Eddie himself. The positive energy that flows from the man is contagious, his outlook on life, his free spirit and innovation is captivating and it has seriously inspired and changed my life. I now do what I love for a living and I have Eddie to thank for the encouragement and motivation.
His vision of Jiu Jitsu, his unorthodox and innovative approach, along with the focus on constant growth of the system really drew me in. How he simplified a vast array of innovative techniques and transitions into a method of controlled chaos immediately attracted me to the 10th Planet System.
A lot of people talk about how Eddie has changed peoples lives, I'm not really sure he truly understands the impact hes had on some people.
I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I am a better person, coach, student and friend because of you Sensei.
You bring out the best in people, its far more important that any Jiu Jitsu technique you could ever teach. Thank you!

Completely agree, Chris. He's had as much an impact on my way of life with his philosophies as he has my Jiu Jitsu with his technique. The man is an idol and hero to myself and many others!Quote:
