Good enough explanation for me, but it would have been nice to hear it sooner.

Def sheds some light on the situation..
"It should be noted that Nick paid to St Jude’s Children’s Hospitable the sum of what would have been his entire purse" That may have saved him in my eyes. Personally Im still not happy about it. I was really excited to see him return to BJJ. Just like I'd love to see Penn come back
Certainly explains a lot. :-)
The Diaz bros are not the sharpest tools in the shed, but I do think that they have and feel the honor and integrity from being a Martial Artist. Like I said this does NOT make them smart lol but I cant blame him for what he did. He had certain conditions and they flat out lied and pulled some shadyness. I would have like to see it but agree that estima would have tried to use this to boost interest in mma. I mean he challenged him to a mma fight so that alone looks like proof that this was the plan.
Makes sense.....the shit that goes on hey!
This makes me appreciate Cesar. Must be tough dealing with Nick. He's gotta be like a father to that guy. Ok, I respect Diaz for standing up for his convictions. But I don't respect how he handled it.Quote:
Nick is not without fault by any means. His lack of communication with his team and coach was inexcusable. This will be addressed privately.
Dude, How can you say someone isn't smart if you haven't sat down and talked with em? I've never understand that. Diaz seems very smart. You have to be in mma. He figured his shit out very early on and has stuck with it. The food, the conditioning, the hours, and what have you. Of anyone in the business this is who these guys are. They grew up in a rough neighborhood and recieved their education through fighting. All in all, they are the sum of their parts.
I don't mean this as the same old social anxiety excuse but I had a friend who had OCD and I myself have Ashpergers. It was a constant battle for my friend not to lose it or to just simply let things slide. For me, personally it comes down to my interests and social skills. As you might be able to tell. I am very straight foward but I can also get lost in my head sometimes. When I was taking the same medication Nick likely takes I tended to talk the exact same way and still do! Its is a battle man. And right now all I think about, talk about, and relate things through is fighting. Jiu Jitsu, boxing, wrestling, whatever. I like to smoke weed just so I can slow my fucking brain down and be myself and be in the moment so as to not drive my family and friends crazy.
I know Nick might not seem like the best, smartest, or most humble dude at times but at times he can be. That is what counts and I think you respect that and realize that some people are just wired differently then you. They have their own battles and demons to face and your comment does nothing to belittle them, it only belittles you for not treading things with a little more understanding. Now if I've offended anyone with any of these comments it is only my opinion and I apologize. You guys are my sort of people and if you'd like to counter this privately with me then much kudos and respect to you. I won't mind.
Im not belittling them & I dont see how it belittles me. I am not talking about anything that has to do with fighting or how anyone grew up. Some people are just not smart, plain & simple. Im not smart by comparison to my son so he could say the same about me & it be true. Now you seem to be a deeper thinker than I am so thats prolly where we differ. Just fyi Im not offended in any way just explaining the reasoning behind my comment.
Without meeting him I wouldnt call him stupid. But he sure as hell acts stupid sometimes. He could be as big as a star as GSP and Im just talking about $$. Say what you want about the UFC but they are opening a lot of doors for fighters. There is potential for the millions of dollars that Nick complains he wants so bad.
I think 99% of the outrage on this is from his fans that like to see him fight so much. Condit is a bad ass and will be a big star, but no one wanted him to win that fight and no one gives a crap about Condit vs GSP. Everyone wanted to see GSP VS DIAZ. He is an awesome fighter when he tries hard and we love to watch him. When he failed his drug test he lets us down becuase we cant watch him fight for a long time. So we get this cool opportunity to watch him kind of go back to his roots and it gets pulled out from under us again! I actually didnt have a clue or care if he would win but I was excited to see him in a pure grappling match.
I 100% understand and agree that Braulio seemed to be using this opportunity to propel his MMA career. I cant claim forsight becuase I didnt post it earlier but when I watched his promo for the BJJ match, he brought up getting into MMA and that raised an eyebrow for me big time. I wish Diaz and his team would have raised these issues as they came to light. Who knows maybe they could have forced Braulio out of the match and got a replacement.
Last I think the best part of the statement and I wish it would have happened; Diaz orriginally wanted to enter the tournement! If he hadnt been pressured into doing the superfight this all could have been avoided.
My apologies and respect for deftly sidestepping that in a modest way. Those were emotional words, haha. I try and hold people to their word and some words are made lightly like mine ((belittling)) and yours ((Diazherpaderp)) likely were. But in your defense ((And my own.)) I think anyone who is really intelligent also knows they are fucking retarded at times.
I figured Diaz had a legitimate side to the story, that's why I didn't jump to judge him like many people did. Knowing the facts from Diaz's perspective, the only part of his actions I really have a problem with is not informing the event coordinators of his decision not to compete. I think he had a legitimate reason for refusing to compete, but simply not showing up and leaving the fans wondering was a reckless move. Having said that, the reason why most of us love Nick Diaz so much is his "I don't give a FUCK" attitude, which is exactly what he displayed by bailing the way he did. It's one of those situations where the very thing that causes the fans to love the guy will inevitably, on occasion, work to the detriment of the fans, but I am personally willing to accept the occasional stunt like this if it means that Nick Diaz remains Nick Diaz. He hasn't lost a notch in my book.
I really enjoy the part about the Brazilian cronies running IBJJF and being dicks.
I'm still a Diaz fan.
Here's Ronda's take on it:

Damn braulio. Dude is messing up.
Braulio's response to Cesar via twitter:
@CesarGracieBJJ Hi César i was reading yr statement. vry interesting points..
1st- When junior approached me 2 Offer me the fight I was actually training at the blackzilians at the time so obviously I was training Mma. Junior told me abt nick not wanting 2 fight an Mma fighter. I nevr fought before so he said it was fine & y u dnt cancel the fight before if ths was really an issue..??
2nd- nobody has ever bended no rules for me. Because there was no rules set to start off with, it wasnt going to be a UFC match but a superfight on a BJJ Expo so the whole point here was for us to show a fight..has Nick signed a contract that stated the date time and weight that we both need to reach? I didn't. And since this whole thing was going to be a friendly event I really don't see any issue here even if Nick turned up 10lbs overweight. Still when asked I went and dropped the weight to meet the requirement. Actually to put things straight it was myself that called Junior around 10pm Friday to check if there is going to be a weigh in at all. He kept contacting you and got back to me saying I need to be 180 that time, of course I said I can't for the simple reason I was away in Irvine and it was already late at night but I said sure no problem I'll make it first thing in the morning if needed, even if it would put me in a bigger disadvantage I didnt care I just came to fight. Junior had actually called me back no later than midnight that he spoke to you and confirmed the weigh in for 10am.
Besides when did Nick actually weigh in? And who witnessed that if we are being so strict and proffessional?
3rd - you are saying Nick had left by 10am Saturday morning? Why you never said anything then? I even asked you I'd like to see him and his weight and you said he's not gonna come down because he ate already and wouldn't make the weight anymore. And Lana after speaking to you called his room and said he was actually there sleeping. Nobody at any point had mentioned he could have left. Leaving me believing we would fight till the very last minute, now youre talking about lack of proffesionalism in the organisation of the superfight and this was very professional behaviour right?
There is many more points here that I don't agree with but I am just fed up of this whole situation and don't agree for anyone to ever release the blame from Nick for whatever reason, we were there to fight and that's what should happen no excuses, we are both professional athletes and should respect one another no matter what. And this is inexcusable.
"Opinion
As a Brazilian I love Brazil but not all things Brazilian. In the last decade I have witnessed Brazilian cronies running the IBJJF and making it impossible for Americans to get a fair shake when competing against their Brazilian countrymen. These cronies have instituted rules to where if you miss weight by even half a pound you are disqualified and not refunded your entry fee. They gladly keep your money and treat you like crap in your country because they can. One of these cronies (Junior) decided to bend all the rules for Braulio Estima and treat Nick Diaz like crap. Sorry that didn’t work out here.
As for Braulio I still respect him as a great BJJ artist. As far as calling Nick out for a mma fight, he knows that is impossible because Nick is signed with the UFC and in mma you have to make weight when they want you to. Not when you want to. If Braulio ever finds success in mma then he can mention Nick’s name for a fight. Right now he should respect the man.
Nick is not without fault by any means. His lack of communication with his team and coach was inexcusable. This will be addressed privately.
Renzo and I have spoken and we are committed to continuing with this otherwise awesome event….without the services of Junior.
It should be noted that Nick paid to St Jude’s Children’s Hospitable the sum of what would have been his entire purse.
Thank you,
You have my apologies and my respect
Cesar Gracie"
It was a great article and I'm glad Cesar respectfully addressed the people who deserved to know while calling out the people who haven't been on the up & up all the way through. I suspected this was the case the whole time, and having read the article, it all just confirmed my initial inclinations. It was disappointing to not see Nick there, but unless you were to walk a mile in his shoes you wouldn't understand the decisions HE has to make and why. LOL @ Ronda not wanting to get involved in the drama, she gets a little ghetto for a sec, "He besta get my name out his mouth befo I cutz him, lying ass..." or something like that. Diaz brothers rubbing off on her ;) It's evident to see now, that Braulio is embarrassed for not making the initial weight as agreed upon the day before. Busted his ass to make the weight, yes, but it was already too late. You're dealing with a top tier MMA fighter who has lived out this formula again & again and to change it last minute is just amatuerish and not respectful of his position. Don't fuck witht the headlining act...they will leave...the crowd will riot. And btw, I had my money taken away at an IBJJF event with no refund for not making weight even though I was there early enough to be re-bracketed into the weight class above, and I think that's pretty stupid. To say there is some bias toward the American fighters is the understatement of the year, that's why we've been moving toward sub-only tournaments and away from all the IBJJF bullshit. You want a legit test of your grappling ability? You do NAGA or GQ without a Gi. If you got big ol king kong balls you man up and get in a sub-only tournament and take some fools out! Fuck all this rules lawyering, bickering, political obstacles, just get in there and roll. Hey lookie, a little comment turned into a rant.
IMO neither Nick or Braulio is clean in this. Looks like they both handled it poorly. But the cause of the bad behavior from what I can see is that the promoter was just being dirty. The promoter was the main source of miscommunication of rules and agreements between fighters and that's what led to all this. Damn shame.
Can someone explain to me ANYTHING Braulio did wrong? He did his part. he flew in, cut the weight, and showed up. He did exactly what was asked of him both contractually, and he even went above and beyond what was asked of him to further accommodate the wishes of Cesar Gracie and Nick Diaz.
This was win/win for Diaz by the way, and he still dropped the ball. If Diaz won, it would be a huge feather in the cap. If he lost it wouldn't be a big deal, as he was supposed to lose.

This sheds light on the Ronda Rousey confusion and mentions Eddie. The whole thing is a fuckin mess.
mma & jiujitsu fans are so flaky "no loyalty " & no one owes them anything like ceasar said ! but people love to cry about shit. even when they don't know the facts
If my points have already been mentioned, I'm sorry.
1) Cesar Gracie and the Gracie Fighters are legit guys and won't back down from anything.
2) I like Braulio a lot, so it's hard to think negativity towards him, but, why not accept a challenge from fellow Robert Drysdale. For charity, it would have been cool. This was not a profight that would ruin an mma career.
3) Props to Nick for still paying to the charity.
4) Cesar acknowledges that the ibjjf is taking advantage of americans in ibjjf tournaments. Coming from a Brazilian, that's pretty deep.
Let's assume he did challenge him, he has no obligation to fight him, he got his money for just showing up, so the % went charity already more than likely.
If Nick wouldn't even show up, even though Edtima made weight, then why should Estima fight a guy who is clearly even further up in weight than that?
It just seems sketchy to me that Cesar would be telling people how he told Nick that Estima didn't make weight, and then he disappears without a trace.
But then only later add "the promoters were shady and that's why the fight wasn't taken"
The only saving grace is that Nick payed the charity.
Eh, it's more often the case that mma fans back up their favorite fighters no matter what.Quote:

I saw people calling Estima a bum and a cheater 5 minutes after the fight was called off, and people quoting the lies that Layzie guy was spreading around, even now after he apologized.
It gets to the point where an mma fighter could bitch slap a baby while snorting coke of a hookers ass in the middle of a target, and their fans would still adore them.
Don't get me wrong, even after this shit, as a fighter I still like Nick.
But I don't believe I ever liked him as a person.
