I think that's a solid plan, but I may be a little biased.

defiantly a solid plan vs getting punched or sprawled on
He's super smart for seriously considering it :)
But the fact he's said it out in public makes it seem less likely, hope he does though !
I'm more of a JDS fan than I am a Mir fan, but I'm more of a BJJ fan than I am a striking fan, so I'd shit my pants if Mir pulls guard and actually wins the title from there.
That said, it's easier said than done on a guy with foot work as good as JDS.
I didn't see the second overeem/werdum fight, but didn't werdum try pulling guard in that fight? If so, there's the argument against pulling guard, but honestly this sounds like a really solid strategy on Mir's part. It's enough to make me believe he has a chance.
Has JDS ever even gone to the ground? This is a great idea because Mir is levels above JDS on the ground. Im actually pretty interested in this match. Very few HW fights interest me
Same here. I actually like this one better than the Ubereem matchup. I like to see style clashes. With the Reem fight we knew it was just going to be a stand up fight. This one might be a little more varied.
I'm looking forward to Shane Del Rosario's UFC debut too. Dude had a ton of potential. I hope the car accident didn't affect him too much.
I would be worried about eating a JDS punch on the ground. Though Frank can take a nice punch.
If Frank Mir pulls guard I will personally take a video of myself drinking my own piss and put it on youtube so all of you can see it....
Mir is screwed regardless, but I like the gameplan. I think more BJJ guys should at least give it a shot. If your BJJ is that good, you should be able to at least get up if it doesn't work. I mean, even if you don't do it in the first minute, I don't understand how a black belt can spend 11 minutes getting lit up like a christmas tree on his feet, and then decide "Well, I'm either going to hit an easy takedown, or just keep it standing". If you believe in BJJ, you have to believe in BJJ, and after the first few times, people will be so concerned about your guard pull, that you will have an easier time hitting strikes, takedowns, etc. Just IMO, though I know that modern MMA scoring SEVERELY discourages this plan
Nog hit him with some nice shots too. Made him to the stanky leg
Ive counted Mir out in so many fights. He keeps proving me wrong so I dunno how screwed he is. Gonna be a good fight either way
Cant take it back!
Never seen Mir fight but he's definitely screwed if he keeps it standing. I'd say ground game is a good game plan but JDS also stated that he's been working on his JJ and wrestling. People thought he was an underdog when he fought against Cain Velasquez but he got knocked out. Who knows what's gonna go down? Anything can happen. Bet's on JDS though.
At heavyweight anyone could win by ko, could be a repeat of the kongo fight ! Hopefully he pulls guard and chokes jds out !
I knew he wasent going to pull guard
Poor performance by Mir.
Great performance by JDS. He knocked him so silly he thought he was in Mandalay Bay
He couldnt get close enough. They didnt clinch one time. JDS was smart keeping him on the outside so that completely nullified Mir's attempt at a ground game
Mir also looked a little too heavy in my opinion.
I might get trolled for this and I am huge fan of Frank Mir, but he is the Heavyweight divisions BJ Penn, loads of talent and raw skill that carried him really far (and will continue too) but he has to me always had questionable work ethic. Too bad, JDS just had him figured out that night. Would have been interesting to JDS play in Mir's guard.
Im a huge Mir fan and his 1st takedown attempt went a bit better than i thought they was going to, cant believe he didnt try anymore. Now that the top heavyweights are not big monsters but lighter and quicker i think Mir might try going back to how he was at ufc 100 (ripped and agile) instead of just being powerfull.
lol mandalay bay. It's understandable, it's such a shitty feeling being rocked with all the shock. Can't imagine how horrible of a feeling it must be to get knocked out.
