Some compression shorts are great, I use the Nike Pro Series and they hold a cup pretty well too and still give a lot of mobility

I use underarmor compression shorts freaking love them have had the same pair for like 2 years they deff hold up
LOL I wear a cup and some spandex.
Made the switch to under armour compression shorts a couple yrs into my training and ditched regular underwear whilst rolling until the last 6 months. Now it seems it matters not. I no longer see compression shorts as beneficial. Tights are a different story though, but I tend not to wear them during the 2 months of summer we are luckily enough to get!

Compression shorts are great. If you want a cup, check out the compression shorts they make that have them built in (I think one of them is called Diamond something - last year Joe Rogan wouldn't stop talking about it). Or, take zip ties, strap one to each of your balls... never mind, just get the compression shorts.
I wear boxers and a cup. I never understood the no cup thing. It's good for learning not to squish your balls with the armbar/kneebar I guess, but no cup equals freak knee to the balls accidents, and I hate that, lol!
I wear a cup. On days where I forget to pack my cup, the jockstrap holds me in place well enough. Worst case scenario, boxer briefs. But yeah, no boxers.
The cup is the source of my power. Kind of like the green lanterns ring.

Nah cup is a matter of preference. Let's just say I feel like they have a high likelihood of injury. so I enjoy rolling with the security knowing my boys are protected. When I roll without a cup, I'm always super hesitant. It's a matter of preference. Compression shorts, jockstrap, or just snug underwear should be fine. But I'm with Cody up there. .

Compression shorts and a cup beat my old method, white briefs with a sock stuff into my my underwear. You wanna talk about mobility though!
hahaha it's a weapon too especially from grape vine when you put pressure through your hips. They are worth there weight in gold.
I once forgot mine and wrestled just in shorts, hooked up a kimura stepped over his head and he started tapping, backed the pressure off and he was still tapping let go of his arm altogether he was still tapping, stood up he was rubbing his eye. Took me 10 minutes to stop crying after he told me how my sweaty balls were stuck sitting in his eye socket.

If you free ball it, you should have more of a sense of urgency. Plus most competitions don't allow it.
I wear valetudo shorts, or compression shorts. I don't wear a cup while rolling, personal prefrence.
For use years I used to go commando under my gi pants, as that was standard for the Japanese Judoka, until one day at Judo practice (while in college) I had a major blow out and my balls, junk and ass were all hanging out my gi pants during the middle of class. That habit changed immediately ;)
