Can lockdown cause serious injury?
Well the lockdown has gotten my calf sore and it hurt like shit but that's about it.
Only if they try to spin. My dad tore his miniscus (bucket tear) timing the spin wrong. Put him out for two years before he could get the surgery
Ive had similar things happen with me. I was rolling with a friend and had him in lockdown.. and he just yanked/twisted wrong and ended up hurting his knee. Then had the same thing happen while going for a twister. There leg was trapped.. and they just started doing what I can only assume was the stanky leg to free their leg.. and ended up messing something up in their knee as well. But I dont think you can really blame the lockdown for someone elses bad decision making.. Sort of like ankle locks.. Theyre only dangerous (relatively speaking) if the person defending doesnt know what theyre doing.
Yeah I guy I rolled with said his calf was sore from days when I held the lockdown on him...I think the lockdown is the shit IMO, because only with the lockdown, which is just a defensive position, to bide time, and sweep, can actually do damage the more you struggle..Its kinda like quicksand..I mean how cool is that, its a little thing yeah, but I find it really amazing.
Lockdown hurts when you're not used to it because it can feel a bit like a calf slicer. I'm used to it these days. But Sarkis' lockdown is always painful. No matter how accustomed I get.
Yes. The lockdown combined with the evil rainbow to get to ec can destroy a knee.

What I use to pass Lockdowns. If the Lockdown is loose, I just elevate my trapped foot and turn.
what you can do to make lockdown more effective is instead of wrapping your inner leg under the foot, bring it over the leg again and then hook it under the foot. then when you squeeze it can (not alwys but can) cut your shinbone into the bottum of the gastrocnemuis ( big bulgey bit of the calf just under the knee.) This doesnt work for everyone and im still trying to fiure it ou completly but i get taps from this quite often and the opponent only postures when u want to. when u have a good leg clinch it can be nasty. from here you can still do almost all of the lockdown moves and if the opponent breaks out its not hard to put him in normal lockdown. i think it also helps to have bigger feet but im not sure yet as to how important that is. apart from that gotta be careful with ur knee especially whe rolling with guys a lot bigger than you but it works amazingly well. people at the sweden seminar can back it up.
ill put up a video here asap if anyone is keen.
That would be awesome.
I'd love to see the video.
I've found that, like other positions, it's only dangerous when the person caught in it starts to explode or spazz out of it, making up shit as they go. Usually they're the stubborn athletic types. It's an awesome set of traits to have when you know how to get out of a position, but if you don't even understand the position you are in, it can lead to bad things.
Personally, I try to pay attention to when somebody is trying unorthodox stuff from a potentially dangerous position. I usually ask them about their knee position and then slowly back off on the submission/control/grapevine/etc.
Common shit I have to back off of are: when people get stubborn about hip control during a leg lock giving me a weird lateral angle on their knee rather than the straight knee angle that i need for the sub. When people try to force their hips square with me during a twist back sweep while their back leg is bent sideways. Berimbolo rolls where their leg isn't penetrated all of the way. When people continue to pass my ankle lock attempt even though I still have their ankle and their leg is sideways. And people who try to turn their hips to power out of a lockdown.
Yeah, it's often the one who is applying the lockdowns fault. In comp we go 100% thought the tech I mentioned. If you get a strong ld and a good bite on his thigh with yours. In other words stay super fuckin tight. Then evil rainbow while circulating and extending the ld while staying super tight. You can pop a knee. It moves laterally while slightly twisting. Knees don't like to move that way.
Yes lockdown can cause injury....cuz when she leave yo ass she gonna leave with half!
hey heres that video finally. ive been having problems with my paypal account so i cant put it right up on the forum but heres the link to the video

first of sorry if anyone has problems with the accent, im from new zealand. cant help it :D but whats important is u have to have good ankle flexibility and bigger feet is always a positive. be careful doing it against bigger guys as your knee can possibly be under pressure. the thing about it is though u have such good control that if ur knee is feeling strain you can just break him down to release it. ive never had any problems with it and my knees can be pretty problematic.
you can get submissions from here what u want to do is get your outer leg shin bone and rub it right under their gastrocnemius (big bulgey part on ur calf) u get it below there and u should be set but dont make it too low of course, then put the pressure on and hold it for a while, maybe try a few arm triangles from bottum or ninja chokes to distract them. dont expect an instant submission unless you have a good leg squeeze either. this is just a control with an almost submission, a bit like invisible collar. id warm ur ankles up a bit first just roll them around and it can be a bit sore holding it sometimes but were fighting here not making daisy necklaces so i think we'll all be fine.
apart from that give it a try and write up what u all think. theres a bunch more u can do with it than i showed there but my cell doesnt have much memory left. ive tried out twister with this and its worse than normal lockdown because of where the foot is he can just lift it up and is free but from half guard apart from being a bit harder to untangle its just the same stuff.
Have fun
na its my own thing, learnt it in nz. showed eddie a few months ago in sweden and he liked it. sorry about the video, try it now
