Montreal Grappling grand prix and Louis 'street' Ho superfight results!!

All in all if was a good day for 10th planet Montreal.

We didn't have alot of guys fighting this tournament but all 3 of them came back home with a GOLD MEDAL

Raul Diaz, weighed-in at 135lbs and fought through the intermediate 150lbs division to with gold with two beautiful triangles out of 4 matches.

Mike Wadsworth, after barely a year's worth of training, stepped up to the intermediate division also, Submitted ALL THREE of his oponents to win the gold medal!!

Pat Beaudoin, 10th planet blue belt, fought a stacked purple belt only advanced division, got his arm popped in his first match, but rallied 3 wins with two submissions to steal the Advanced 170lbs division gold medal, with his half-broken arm. He then entered the Advanced absolute, WON THE DIVISION, and with that earned a free trip, all expenses payed to NOGI PAN-AMS IN NEW YORK THIS YEAR! We're really proud of his top notch performance.


Last fight of the day was Louis 'street' Ho superfight with long time Carlson gracie brown belt Tri Nguyen. Louis fought through injury (actually almost pulled out) and stuck into his 10 minute match after being thrown on his head in the first few minutes, Tri momentarely passed the guard and was up 7-0 for the throw and the pass, but Louis rallied with a classic Street Ho butterfly sweep with few minutes left in the match, he came close to passing the guard on multiple occasions fighting through the fatigue but his opponent was good enough at stalling or quickly recovering to keep him from getting any last minute points. This was one of the most exciting fights of the day, with over 100 people watching and cheering on. Louis is going to review the tapes and work on some little tweeks in his game to come back strong in his next outing. Final score was 7-2 for Tri after 10 minutes of hard faught almost-points and close sweeps.

His opponent had seen multiple videos of Louis' performances and it showed clearly he knew his game by heart. On our side Louis hadn't prepared for Tri's game because we couldn't get our hand on any footage. This fight video will be up soon. Stay tuned for official words from the man himself!

Try 9 months of training Sam :p! To be fair I did wrestle in high school which helped a lot in the beginning.

I was super happy with how I rolled today, I feel like my game has improved a bunch in the past couple of months. I can't give a big enough endorsement for MTS. I signed up a few weeks ago and it has improved my bottom game tremendously. I feel super comfortable pulling guard and working my lockdown game. To the point where I pulled guard in my gold medal match because the guy was a wrestler and I didn't want to play that game.

Looking forward to posting the videos. I also got my 10th Planet gear in the mail yesterday, it was nice to compete in it. The shorts are awesome.

That's right! Mike has truely improved his game in the last month. I can tell by rolling with him everyday.

Also a huge props to Papa Ho for taking this superfight and fighting it with an injury. What a great warrior to have as a coach !!

'Street" put on a great fight. Congrats to both he and Tri for giving us edge of your seat action. I guess the highlight was a well timed throw by Tri -- had it been cement... Ughh... I'd like to see a re-match, and/or best 2 out of three. It's worth it.

Big props to Pat, of course. Comes to show you that you should never give up and never quit. Out of the gate, Pat makes a mistake and get's arm-bared. And before you know it, lo and behold, after what looked like 3 or 4 victories in a row (with no rest), Pat was the winner and on his way to New York. Very nice.

Raoul did great. I was watching from a distance...

Wadsworth is a good show. It all started like a school yard brawl. It was great. Some good leadership skills on this cat.

Stay humble guys. Win or lose good things will happen.

lol. I've been trying to make my matches look less like school yard brawls but it's not easy. I have a hard time staying calm on the mat.

Those are the full results... We only had 3 guys fighting plus Louis doing the superfight. All three of them won gold.

Thanks guys. It was definitely rough for me going into the superfight with some health issues. But no excuses, my opponent executed a good gameplan and got the win. He basically knew my game enough to stuff my top move and he got an amazing throw on me, which basically had my entire body land on my face. I'm still really sore from that one throw. I realize I have many other things to work on. I just need to get past the emotions of not getting the win, and go from there. Thanks to all my students for their support. And congrats again to Pat Beaudoin (advanced and absolute champ), and Raul Diaz, and last but definitely not least, Mike Wadsworth (this guy has been consistently tearing it up in comps). :)

Yeah the victory would have been sweet, but what was most amazing, was your commitment to your effort regardless of the result. Very impressive..........the pics are awesome Louis. Be proud of yourself mate.....We all are!
