I see a lot of pain being dished out lol
I think I'll get this DVD set. Be nice to have lol
The Avellan boys know what's up.
That straight-arm Kimura control is a huge part of my game right now. I'd love to see what else they're doing with it.
I think my fav part is that ill never have to fear wrestlers again!!!!!
I like it
I wasn't sure about them. I'm a skeptical guy and for whateve reason they kept emphasizing to make sure their emails don't go into your spam folder. I'm wondering what the heck they've been doing to make their emails look like spam. Prolly just putting in a ton of work. Either way the video looks legit and I'd like to see what else they have to show. I'd love to add this to my game.
lol this guy. hahah
I fucks with it. A lot of my ground control is centered around that similar control on the arm, damn rassling.
I never had had much luck with the Kimura i feel its a battle of whos stronger could just be poor technique on my part but being a HW the guys i go with usually have big arms and are super strong with that being said i'm still interested in this alot of these set ups look slick think i might check this out thanks for sharing
I started using this from drilling the rolling kimura and kimura-half. It puts me on the back with a very high percentage. I'm a fan.
The Avellan guys are students of Lloyd Irvins marketing style so that equates to massive amounts of emails being sent out so I think that is the reason their emails might come in as spam. Good guys though, they have a school by me that i might check out. Freestyle Fighting Academy. My BJJ instructor is closing his doors and moving to Brazil permanently. So now Im forced to choose between my original school American Top Team, Pablo Popovitch schhol and Freestyle Fighting Academy. Tough choices. What do you guys think?
There's a reason it's illegal in wrestling. It's easy picking. Think about all of Sakuraba's early Pride matches; there's a Kimura counter in there somewhere.
Let's interview this Turkish cat and ask him if he changed his theory on how to attack a single leg :)

Yep.
I use it from Twister Side Control all the time as a back take. Even if he defends his arm, roll anyway and keep your arms straight throughout the process. If he sits up, take his back. If he sees it coming and won't sit up, use that old school Rorion Gracie choke where you squeeze his neck with your thighs. I just call it the Rorion. There's an armbar opportunity in here, as well, and a chance to sit up to the NS Kimura.
On another note, Marcelo Garcia refuses to use the Kimura. He says it doesn't work against big guys, so he doesn't waste his time with it. If there's someone on the board who has actually heard him dive deeper into this philosophy please share with the group :)
Ah that makes sense.
Maybe he's referring to the sub itself. Seems like the Avellan approach is more about using it as a system of attack and only go for the actual kimura if it's all the way there. After seeing this video, the recent MTS, and Geo using it in the recent MTS, I'm convinced that it's an amazing inway for a series of attacks I was clueless about. Me thinks if Marcelo used it as an entry point he might like it more. ???
I really like how after showing a bunch of the techniques they have a highlight reel of it being used in competition. I wish more people did that. I mean its cool that you can teach a technique but can you pull it off on high level guys where it counts. Just using that kimura grip was a huge part of my game for awhile . It digs me out of some major holes when I pull it out of my back pocket.
I rarely use the sub itself, but once applied he is forced to do only on thing, defend. You however are free to advance your position by sweeping, or shifting your hips up and over the head to the back. I successfully use it in every position except bottom side, mount or back.
I've seen it used from bottom side. Pretty dangerous though.Quote:

So much so that he often gives side control so he can get it. But here is the thing, he is very ripped 190 and I'm a weak 152. He hits it all the time in class against me and others, but has had it locked in several times in MMA bouts against strong guys his size and had zero success. Should he continue to use valuble, limited mat time practicing it. It is an easy sub for him during roll time and makes his ego feel great. But should he eliminate it during roling and force his self to work on something that he can do on anybody.
About :58 he has it locked tight and cannot finish it.

Matt Hughes/ St Pierre, very dangerous and I use this counter, which i use often. But if both are hip to it, it can be used as an escape. I bait is counter step around, then push my kimura off into his hip and recover open guard. Its a good escape, because like I said. Once a kimura is applied, they have to deal with it, one way or another.
