Offered Machida the fight....Machida turned it down. Too short notice.
Offered to Chael. Chael accepts. Jones turns it down. Too short notice.
Jones vs Machida for UFC 152.

Jones ducked Chael.
That says more about the weakness of the 151 card than anything. And THIS is what is killing the UFC. People pay 50 bux to watch multiple fights of decent caliber. But recently it's been decision after decision after decision. It has seemed that the desire to "finish" a fight has transcended to "win" the fight. That is partly because of the UFC's quick finger on the fire button of losing fighters. It seems they are more cautious and fight safer because a "w" - even if by boring Jake Shields like style - is still a "w" and they live to fight one more fight.
The ammo Chael will have now. Fuck Michael Jackson and his popcorn, what follows will be epic.
People are crazy ignorant saying jones ducked Chael. 8 days notice? Common now, any logical person would know 8 days before the fight isn't near enough time to figure a gameplan out. Chael is ruthless and even though I want jones to smash him its everythin to gain for Chael and everything to lose for jones. Also why would jones wanna let Chael talk his way into ANOTHER title shot? Make Chael work for it since he just got beat up by silva. Dana white will do anything to keep a card going apparently.
Oh yeah. Apparently Chael was with his GF's sick father in the hospital. Hasn't had a full training camp. Probably hasn't even added any weight to be a comparable LHW. Yet he takes the fight. Dude might be crazy but he has brass balls.Quote:

Does Chael deserve a title shot? Nah. But Jones has fought and beaten bigger and better fighters. I'm almost sure that if Greg Jackson wasn't in his ear, he'd have taken the fight.
Now he's on the company's bad side. Looks like he ducked what appears to be an easy fight for him. Screwed like 20 guys out of their paychecks.
Worst case scenario.....Jones loses. I'm sure he would likely get an immediate rematch. The UFC seems to like doing that. If nothing else, he wins one fight and gets back to the title. I think it's crazy how he doesn't want to take on an underprepared Chael in 8 days, but wants to fight a fully prepared Machida. I don't get it.

The undercard fighters are the real losers here. Will they get another fight soon, sure. But I'm sure they were counting on the money from this fight for their families. Not all fighters are sponsored by Nike, Gatorade, or Under Armor.

Shouldn't the undercard fighters have something in their contract that lets them still get paid something if the fight doesn't go down? That's a long training camp to get nothing. Some of the stuff Chael says is funny and I admire his courage for wanting to take on the best fighters in the world anytime, anywhere but that being said it's not right that the loudest, most disrespectful guy gets the biggest fights. Make him earn it.
Dude, Chael has earned every right to say whatever he wants. He understands the business of MMA and at the same time is a stand up guy behind the scenes. I have little doubt that aside from his own benefit in question. In the back of his head he was thinking of those other dudes who worked their asses off to get ready. Reading between the lines of his comments and who he is as a person. ((Straight Randy Couture status.)) He had no choice but to step up. Hell, he promised his late father that he'd be a world champion. That promise has yet to fulfilled.
He'd take that fight. And I have little doubt it'd be Silva vs Chael 1 sans the triangle.
As much as I hate Chael... I gotta really blame Jones for this. There was a time when UFC fighters would fight each other without scientifically breaking down thier opponents tendencies and weaknesses. The Golden Age of the UFC (50 to 120 imo) was so good because all the fights were fought with more emotion, more desperation to finish and to sell fans to the sport. Now, we have garbage decisions, fighters pulling out of fights, refusing fights, etc.
As for Jones... Grow a Pair! If you really want to be "GOAT"... then take the Sonnen fight. You dont need to dissect his gameplan... its pretty fucking obvious!!! Man up and stuff your elbows in his nostrils!
As for Sonnen... What comes next from this mans mouth is going to be the most hilarious shit since George Carlin.
Hope Hendo gets better too. And hope Machida waxes on and off real well for his next fight.
This makes me sad on a molecular level. And the Sonnen sound bites that are sure to follow in the next 48 hour will probably be more epic than The Art of War.

WTF man , many fighters in UFC has taken fights in short notice, Chris Weidman, Leben, Forrest, Bisping, Liddell even friggin I only think for my self Tito Ortiz. What is so hard about Jones to fight a guy who is more than likely 20 pounds lighter and bunch of inches shorter than him, who had no full training camp. Also you are not going from Pat Barry to Brock Lesnar, Hendo and Chael both train in the same camp, both are wrestling based limited strikers.
Jon Bones Jones is a bitch, seriously. This is the type of guy who would probably leave his friends and family and run so he does not get hurt in a street fight where there are more than one opponent harassing in an alley. And don't bring up where he caught an attacker or something before the fight. It was his camp that caught the guy , there was 4 of them in the scene and once all said and done they put Jones on the guy and took a picture of him for publicity.

Because undercard fighters are the back bone of MMA. If these guys don't get paid enough, they wont' be able to afford fight camps. If they can't afford fight camps, they'll probably have to balance a full time job with MMA training. That means they'll never get better. That means the sport doesn't advance. Making sure the "little" guys get paid is good for the sport. I can only imagine how dudes must feel.Quote:

Hendo got hurt. Such is life. Machida hasn't had a full fight camp. No reason for him to fight for the strap under prepared. Jones, on the other hand, had a full fight camp and is in excellent shape. Supposedly Hendo tried to train through the partial MCL tear for about a week. From what I know fighters stop training the week before the fight. But knees are tricky. Especially when you're older. Even with light sparring, you could still hurt yourself unintentionally.Quote:

The fight has only been postponed by a few weeks, if Chael got to simply hop right in, Lyoto and hendo would both be set back in their title shots.
How is that fair?
