Thanks for posting that. It's really cool to seem him teach that tech- it's definitely something I associate directly with him.
I still can't believe Cobrinha survived that shit twice.
Dope! :)
sick! i'm actually really surprised they posted that for folks who aren't paying for mendesbros.com
i can't wait to start drilling those details
thanks for posting
Bookmarking ths one for sure.
Sick choke. The michael jackson vibe with the kids though is creeping me out.. j/k
Amazing details. A lot of the time when you have an amazing competitor they arent great instructors or visa versa. But with Rafa hes both. Thanks for posting this
Was working this today during open mat, the leg push works great, really helps get the grip on tight and gives you some time
But still have never had a good anaconda finish, more of the Marcelo theory of guy and stick with the no head and arm whenever I can, but I do use the arm in guillotine with the reverse gable grip and the Japanese necktie
Never had a great anaconda finish either, but keeping the leg laying on their triceps makes it a lot easier because it's basically 3 limbs doing the choking, and the leg makes up for an inherently weaker squeeze as opposed to maybe a darce or guillotine which seem to be easier finishes to name a few. This technique works great and you completely bypass the underhook/overhook fight. I love it.
We gator roll to mount a lot in the CHI and this could be throw into that path. That's legit as fuck. Thanks for the knowledge.
If it works no gi, its in the system
I think it would work great off a failed Japanese necktie
i feel like there should be a good transition to a guillotine in there if the opponent is adamant about unwrapping the inside arm. will have to drill this more.
Really liking this now, the thigh push/trap is a big help, I actually go for the anaconda now and get it! Also if I feel like I can't finish a let them roll to there knees which is the natural reaction anyways and switch to the Marcelotine, the neck opens up because they are still worried about the arm under the armpit, works in well with my guillotine game
Yes! That is exactly what I was thinking.Quote:

Come on down David!
My combo I will be drilling now will be Japanese Necktie to Rafaconda to the Marcelotine
Also if you don't want to switch to the guillotine and keep the anaconda, Rafa likes to insert a butterfly hook on the side of your grip, so if it's a right armed choke and they get to the knees, put in a left butterfly hook and sweep them back down to their side or back and finish again. He also says that as long as you continue to walk into their hips and crunch their head down, that they really won't have any posture to be able to get to their knees.
But yea the guillotine is great off this too.
Great details as expected... You can see why he is one of the best in the world!
Still using it a lot, love it
Have been using it more from the rolling front headlock over seated or butterfly guard, also for the finish I like to trap a leg when they try and run when you hip in, if you getthe leg its usually over
badass!
Rafa also does it against seated guard like youre saying. I think it's stronger to grab a leg as well. A good drill with anaconda and darce or marce chokes is to get the grip, but not apply too much pressure, and have your partner try to "outrun" you and you follow them with your legs until your can trap one.
My 2 go to anaconda's now are the Rafaconda and this varation Werdum shows against the Turtle

I'm sure you know this but Rafa does this one too. He prefers it over the gator roll. He never will roll with the choke he believes it is too risky. Hell either roll you over your head or roll over yours
:)
Come to think of it I think Denny Prokopos uses that DDT style entry as well. He did it on one of the early MTS episodes
Yeah, Rafa doesn't like the roll, I never had luck with the roll either, I really like this Werdum one, just cut the leg and trap it, really has been working well for me, the Rafaconda and Wedum version has completely changed my stance on anaconda
Yeah, I seen Denny do that on MTS, like you said, more of a DDT version
Been drilling this like crazy !! Threw in getting on top with Darce and Jap necktie/ Marcelotine finishes as well :)
Nice!
A nice flow I was drilling that everyone seemed to like went from half guard to Rafaconda, they escape to the knees, werdum version/knee cut anaconda and catch the leg, they break free and roll the other way so follow to the turtle and slap on the Marcelotine
How do you guys feel about standing up and rolling them back? Like, you have the anaconda locked while you're both on your knees, then you hop up to your feet and kinda bulldoze them backward and end up in mount?
Or if the bulldoze into you, you can pull guard and still finish the choke (like DoBronx did against Jonathan Brookins).
I've done it a couple times and it seems to work well. But I'm a whitebelt who made it work on another white belt. So I wanna know if it's something that really works, or something I made work at a low level.
