looks like streaming live @ http://metamoris.com/. Doesn't say if it is free on not. I think the Glover Terra match will be real fun to watch.
I cant wait to see JJ and Glover/Terra 2
Fuck. yes. Is this a dream?
Nice, as painful as it is to watch a Gi match nowadays, all those fights look good on paper! Let's hope everyone's healthy and they all come through.
The only problem I see is that unless it's a winner take all purse or there's a significant win bonus there might be no serious urgency to go for a submission.
Looks awesome !!
Holy shit!
This is so awesome!
What a good trailer
Those are some serious names. I would be surprised if there were not serious prizes and serious submissions.
0:25 to 0:26 looks so fucking sick.
This is my main concern - while I think there are major problems with BJJ rules/scoring - I think there can be problems with sub only too. Competitor's demand for winning, can turn anything into it's worst form - even if it has all the opportunity to be amazing. You can imagine someone not being concerned about being mounted and just sitting there with their elbows pinned to their sides, waiting, when they could be getting jacked in the face. It's definitely a trade-off, but I fear you'll have people playing super conservative and then trying to snatch a leg-lock. Ryan Hall talked about this quite a bit in his recent onthemat podcast. I'd prefer if they just fixed the rules to make more sense, then people would still have that sense of urgency.
This will definitely be awesome though - I just don't think sub-only is the answer for jiu jitsu - I think fixing the rules is.
Cant they just get rid of the time limits? Im down to watch a match with any of these people for hours. Maybe switch guards every 10 mins or something if you feel the need to.
I think sub only is a better answer than fixing the rules. Think about it. If sub only becomes the standard, you're not going to make a name for yourself with draws. You can't win a medal with a draw. So there is urgency. The thing will fixing the points system is that there's always going to be someone who looks for ways to exploit those rules. The only way to exploit sub only is if you're losing and you defend to a draw. Well, you didn't win, and the other guy, though he may have been dominant, didn't win either. I don't see the problem.
Now with these guys, they already have a name. But since each of these matches is pretty much its own superfight, they'll be fighting for pride. The only time I can picture any of them being "conservative" is if they're thinking 12 and 20 steps ahead or they're trying to catch their breath. I don't expect these matches to be boring. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. At least I know Glover and Master Jean Jacques will be there to fight.
I love sub-only format but you make great points. This is exactly what Ryron Gracie did at the Gracie Worlds this summer. Let the guy pass, get control, actually put his legs down and let dude take mount waiting till time was running down and then did what he could've done all along and finished him. That was pretty disrespectful to the guy he was competing against in my opinion. Basically clowning him. Yeah we all knew who would win, but I'd rather say I got my ass kicked by Ryron Gracie in under a minute because he's a bad mofo and took it to me rather than he just toyed with me and let me pretend I had a chance for most of the match.
With that said I still think this event is going to be awesome! No room for playing around with these killers
Glover/Terra 2!!!!
I Hope Kron gets tapped, for some reason i just cant stand that guy, or his brother. To smug in my opinion... lol or im just a gracie hater
His brother Rockson is dead. He has other brothers, but they aren't known for Jiu Jitsu. Are you talking about Ryron and Rener? Also, there are so many Gracies, and so many sides of the family, many with beef between each other. Not really fair to lump them all together, especially if you don't even know who is who.
A lot of Kron's ideas I'm not a huge fan of, but he grew up the son of Rickson, what do people expect?
I like the fact that he finishes almost all of his fights, and I'm surprised that he gets as far as he does without really training sport Jiu Jitsu. Otavio is a beast, but I think Kron flourishes in a submission only environemnt.
what an amazing card. Where is marcelo garcia and pablo popovitch?
Wow. Ends up they booked this on the same date as the ADCC qualifiers. Listening to the OMR interview posted in this thread and at about 20 minutes into it they are talking about how the two are both being held on the same date.
In the same city.
