awesome
Miesha Tate Also Signed In By UFC
they need to sign the olympic boxing gold metalist, & shana bazsler & magumi fuji and a few more japanese leglock chicks and bring back marloes cunan and some dutch kick boxing chicks
Holy shit, congrats Ronda.
Agreed Derrick. They need Marloes Coenen back. :-)
finally! Hopefully they have one or two divisions established and don't treat the womens ranks as special one off fights. The fact that they are having a belt leads me to believe it's a division that has some investment in longevity. I can't wait to see how this shapes up.
It's a bummer that gina is no longer competing as she was truly a pioneer for womens mma. Maybe she'll consider a return... Her loss to cyborg on roids is another example of why testing fighters should be an automatic, and hold the industry responsible for it's professionalism.
I don't know what Ronda weighs, but she would destroy a lot of men in her weight division.
Happened a lot sooner than I expected it to..Still don't care though. Girl fights arent that great imo. Granted Ronda has been pretty impressive I dont really care to watch the rest
So in hind sight, Strikeforce is for sure a goner?
yep shutting its doors after the final event in Jan. Rockhold title defence I believe. :-)
Cool they signed Tate too, and for sure hope Carano comes out of retirement and puts some real effort into the sport again. Them (Rousey, Tate, and Carano) along with Cyborg, Coenan, Carmouche and a couple others you have a pretty solid foundation. I mean UFC started their 125lb division with just 4 guys - and IMO they didn't already have a superstar like Rousey in that division. :-)
I feel like there's some awesome talent in the 125 division. Both Johnson and Bennividez (sp?) were big names and When Ian McCall comes back the division is loaded with talent. that one guy from the ultimate fighter who competed the season with bisping and mayhem is next in line for a shot. He's not my fav, but he's talented.
Yes DJ and JB were pretty big names but my wife for example whom i would describe as an average fan wouldn't be able to tell you who they were. Ronda on the other hand is as big of a star as nearly any fighter in the UFC. I certainly wasn't saying the 125 division wasn't talented, far from in in fact. I think they are super talented. Was just saying, to build a division it helps when you have a superstar like Ronda Rousey :-)
I can see what you're saying. Ronda is definitely a draw with tons of talent and potential. I was hoping that this would happen at some point. The one thing I ponder is should the industry cater to the "average" fan, or that actual fan. I understand how mainstream the business is, and that in this particular move it's an awesome acquisition, but when considering this issue in a more general spectrum I think decisions should consider the actual fan as opposed to the casual fan. No disrespect to your wife or any casual fan, but sometimes I feel like in the conquest of expansion the industry can often loose sight of it's hardcore fan base. But no surprises here and I'm sure we are all happy to see Ronda in the UFC
Women generally fight with so much more ferocity and intensity than men do, at least at this level. Granted, the technique is not at the same level, ever. I can only speak for myself, but I am sick of watching male MMA fights where the first minute, or sometimes the entire first round is devoid of any progress and both fighters just test range.
I have the same impression regrading women having a more intense style. I'm just not sure if this is a sign of lower skill level. Don't get me wrong, plenty of guys have a very aggressive styles and are highly skilled. The two aren't mutually exclusive. On the other hand nearly every low skill fighter has an aggressive approach.
As fa as male MMA and the pace, I of course know what you saying. I personally don't mind it a bit. Take the recent feather weight fights fore example. I don't know what you thought of them but I was very happy, particularly with the Demetrius Johnson Vs Joseph Benavidez fight. A lot of "fans" booed the fight, I couldn't believe it. I thought the stand up skill and intelligence of both fighters was very entertaining.
I really think you have to appreciate the intricacies of stand up fighting to be entertained when your watching two strategist go at it. Just like baseball, a lot of people think its boring, I've come to realize from watching baseball with these people that they don't know enough about baseball to see all the action. They see a guy standing at the plate waiting for another guy to throw the ball. To real baseball fans there a lot going on at any given second and so much subtle interplay between the player that it can be really action packed. Go Giants!
I have a mixed view on the subject... To play devils advocate if the UFC really does house the best talent in the world, and the whole feminist movement was on equal rights why doesn't Ronda Rousey fight at 135 in the bantamweight mens div? I want to see the best vs the best... Championships in the UFC should be based on who the greatest person in the world is and anyone can get it. I don't like divisions where you can't compete in for a specific reason. I had the same opinion when wanderlei silva proposed a veterans division to everyone above 35. If you believe you're the best at 135 prove it by beating the best, which is Dominick Cruz.
I see your point. Truly fair would be co-ed. That's why women's MMA will always be more of an exhibition and attractiveness will always be an issue. Not that some of girls couldn't kick my ass but hey couldn't beat the men in their weight class.
Well I guess that is a wrap for Invicta FC as well. Dont really care. Saw it coming.
