THE SCENARIO: You have the lockdown. Your opponent manages to get under your ass for the buttocks compressor to break the lockdown and pass.
QUESTION 1: Is there anything you can do at this point to prevent your opponent from breaking your lockdown and passing?
QUESTION 2: If the answer to question one is NO. What are the recommendations from him breaking the lockdown and passing to regain a dominant or neutral position (I.E. guard of half guard)?

If I am ever plain and simply caught off guard and he is in position I put my left hand on the back of his neck and as he sprawls I hip escape to freedom and take butterfly or front control whatever presents itself. I even look to take the back from there as soon as I hip out. You gotta know when to bail and reset!
Your experience will always dictate how soon you notice his movement. High level guys move way sooner than the more novice level guys do. Its just a sensitivity thing that comes with hours of mat time.

Don't allow him to get the double underhook. Get a deep overhook and pull him back up for a stomp or something. If he does connect (which should be prioritized to not be allowed to happen), push his neck/face away with pimp arm straight arming it away and get a really good shrimp to guard replacement like Frank said.

When getting your hips out/shrimping you can try throwing a switch in there at the same time. Great wrestling move for bjj.
Notice how Frank said 'When im caught off guard'. Echoing Scott, never let him connect his hands. Then you are only on salvage mode. You can feel someone creeping down and pressuring their shoulder in your stomach to be in posish to make the connection. This is when you should have the urgency. Grab your whizzer (or double whizzers) and pull him back up not allowing the connection. Then whizzerpimp stomp, flying kungfu, or meathook.
Whats the best way to defend the guillotine, rnc, or darce? Dont let him connect. Same concept. It his dogma.
That would definitely be the ideal situation, but I'm a Ronin with no school in my area. I've trained JJ for about 5 years, and the 10P system for the last 3-4 month's. I'm definitely a work in progress with good success so far.Quote:

Very good way of putting it Bobby. The buttocks compressor has only come about in the last week or so. We're fairly new to the lockdown and everything that surrounds it. The input is greatly appreciated though. I have no doubt that with me upping my game and generous people like yourself taking the time to answer "noob" questions like mine, I will consistently get better every day.Quote:

It's extremely effective after you've got some good reps, saves me regularly.There are plenty of specific situational options depending how far deep into getting smashed you are but I've had much success with this before someone has a chance to work down. Just merely my personal experience, I have a ton to learn but half guard is one of my better positions to give useful opinions on.

pull a switch like you would with any hugging side to side pass ie passing the butterfly by stuffing and squeezing both legs. if he breaks it open and is able to squeeze your hips together hugs and passes to your right, reach your left arm all the way to the other side (his left) and hammer your elbow down behind his shoulder and reach your hand down and hook his left leg. you can use that to get to you back elbow or hand and a knee and come out on top
It's obviously a best-case scenario to never have anyone lock their hands in that position, but it can happen. Assuming he gets hands locked, I thought Frank described the situation very well. It's basically pushing their head down and shrimping away to make space. In that position one thing I like to try to do is escape my bottom leg from his grasp and quickly sit-up, hopefully being able to roll over into a Marceloesque crucifix position. Basically turning his grip on your top leg into a crucifix the same way you would a single-leg. Anyway, yea, best to not let them connect their hands.
Thanks for all the input! I actually worked on Frank's input "placing the hand on the neck and shrimping out" tonight. I ran into a snag with it though. As I pushed on the back of the neck and started shrimping, my opponent held the lock under my buttocks as he moved to side control and I lost that battle. Now, this was my first attempt at this and I'm sure more reps will bring improvement. Are there any minor details that will help me be more successful?
