Dare (brabo) vs Anaconda

Hi,

Its kinda hard to get one on one with my coach right now, I could use some newbie help, I tried google first.

I found that I can pass guard on guys often and get to side control but I just cant make any chokes work. I decided to study up on my choke options from side control.

Anyway, I'm having trouble with the difference between the darce and anaconda. Their both arm in figure four chokes? I know the anaconda is usually setup when your opnt turtles and you have a front headlock but I know you can set it up from top side as well. The more I look at the chokes the more it seems that the difference is only in the setup as opposed to the choke itself?

The only diffidence I might be seeing other than setup is that with the anaconda the opnts "in arm" (arm inside your figure four) is on the side your hands are clasped on and with the darce the opnts "in arm " is 180 off that, their neck is on your clasped hand side.

I think different people on you tube are using the names interchangeably maybe?

You are correct the main difference is where the hands are clasped. I prefer to go for anaconda when an opponent shoots and I sprawl (or whenever a partner is in turtle and im on top.) I go for darces when Im in side control. I usually go north south choke first (lots of details that go into this) and when my opponent turns into me to defense I slip m right arm through for a darce. Once I secure the darce (rear naked choke grip) I walk my hand up to my shoulder to tighten the choke...then sprawl to finish.
Glover has a good vid on all the darce techniques...there are many little details that go into making this choke successful but once you do its deadly. its one of my go toos from side mount.

Love the D'Arce it's an integral part of my game and by making it a main threat has opened my eyes to a myriad of other subs, deep hook transitions, passes, etc. My favorite D'Arce Transition is actually Off of sprawl control where you roll underneath (much like a gator roll) and end up on top in a traditional D'Arce finish. Make sure when you're finishing your D'Arces, Marces, and Farces, you "switch from human to Anaconda mode" (Denny Prokopos). I personally love Jeff Glovers DVD "Darcepedia" it's really taken my D'Arce game to new heights.

From side control, can crusher to Darce or N/S choke if you lose the arm. Eddie went the can crusher in a recent mts episode.

Or let them shrimp to their side and hook a whizzer, to vice grip, to Darce or JNT...and if they get to their knees, anaconda or PNT.

Or, side control to twister side, to tip toe mount to arm triangle.

Thanks for this post. Been debating getting the darcepedia. You just convinced me its worth it. I mean, you won worlds with a Darce. I think that says a lot. Haha.

I appreciate that and yeah that DVD and moat of all excellent instruction by Josh Passini and all the guys in the gym is really what helped me win worlds. :)

Darcepedia and fade to black made my chokes work. I almost never hit anacondas but the darce is one of my top moves. I love to mount after sinking the darce. You got to make sure the choke arm is deep with the darce otherwise a tough guy wont tap.

If the hand of your choking arm is by his neck= Darce. If the hand of the choking arm is in his armpit= Anaconda

Setup the darce however you do, side control north/south baby wipe pass...whatever, then once its sunk step over.
