Is the electric chair illegal in gi, no gi, BJJ tournaments.
All depends on the promotion.
the sub is usually banned but the sweep isnt as far as i know. most of the guys in germany go by ibjjf rules or modified rules of that. id be careful though as some refs dont understand it and may falsely call the sweep something else.
Ibjjf rules say "stretching the legs apart" is cool for adults I think. I may be wrong. I know that I personally wouldn't hesitate to try it as a sub.
^you're right.

Article 6 shows that its illegal for kids under 13. It's ok for everyone else.
Naga and gq are more lenient so I'd believe they're ok. But it's definitely ok in ibjjf.
Hallo Mike
Mach ihn einfach wenn es die gelegnheit zu lässt!
I would say just do it easy!;)

I assumed it was banned, just because even looking at your opponents legs is banned in IBJJF but it turns out it is legal for all but little kids (who can't even do armtriangles) - made me happy!!
Getting DQ sucks but it is awesome going out in style :) so I would run with it.
Holy shit, mike asked a question.
It is legal but the move is often misinterpreted as attacking the knee so it's a good idea to discuss it with the ref before hand. It happens out here all the time so we know now to have this disucssion before hand, and when as usual the ref says it's illegal we get the head of the tourney or someone more knowledgable working there to come over and correct him.
In 2012 the IBJJF started allowing submissions by "stretching the legs". The issue I found is in most smaller unofficial IBJJF tournaments that follow the IBJJF rules, the refs didn't know about the change. I had to bring it up with one ref in a small South Carolina tournament who said I was wrong and then he went and asked the head ref and he said it was legal as of 2012.
You can read about "stretching the legs" in the IBJJF PDF rule book.
