That was awesome, thanks for sharing!
Crazy! Awesome.
arm bar to taking the back?! are you nuts?!! lol Loved it, Mendes is a fucking wizard.
that armbar to taking the back was amazing....BUT what even more AMAZING is that, the other guy goes toe to toe with Mendes with just ONE ARM!!!! WOW....much respect...
Bookmarking.
Number 1 P4P right now, well, I have him and Marcelo 1and 1a
oh SHIT!
man, i can't believe how amazing he is
Knee on belly switch to the other side right into the leg drag position
From armbar on the bottom to going under to the back, just ridiculous
Amazing!
All in days work. What tournament was that? SF Open?
Glad this is getting rightful praise here
I think this was at the Houston Open as he was just here....
This was at the SF open
He won at the Houston open a couple weeks ago also

What a BEAST!!!
The almost back take from the failed arm bar from the guard was nothing short of sorcery, plus all that guard passing was super sweet on the eyes. From these 2 matches it seems that he likes to go to spider web off the back. Not too many GI guys I'll sit thru, but I'll watch anything by Rafa that's for sure :-)
Yeah Eddie. Some insight into his philosophy on that if you were curious, if not just ingore:
Rafa believes from the over-unders/seatbelt (no-gi or gi) that whatever side you land on should dictate whether you attack the RNC or the armbar. If you're on the over-arm side, you go for your RNCs/collar chokes. If you're on your under side you go for armbars and wristlocks.
Rafa is a ninja at pulling armbars from the back. He does that shit all the time both no-gi and gi. I'd say after his roll-thru anaconda choke from top half guard the armbar from the back is probably his most common finish in no-gi.
Glad you liked the matches
This is very true. The only thing I will say is that he doesn't actually prefer to cross the feet or not. he doesn't really care. he keeps his knees pinching no matter what. If both of his feet are behind the far arm (the one that isn't being arm barred) he is fine with crossing the feet.
Here's some good examples of Rafa hitting armbars and wristlocks from the back control against Purple belt No-Gi World champ Darson Hemmings.

I almost rolled Geoffrey at NAGA one time. I finished the blue gi and was at the bracket table trying to talk my way into the purple belt division and they said if I put on a brown belt I could roll him cause no other browns were in his division. I was opposed to wearing a brown and wanted to roll in my own belt so they just let me go purple because he didn't want to roll someone wearing a blue apparently. He is SUPER legit though, ridiculous. One hand or not.
The Mendes Bros have a good arsenal of 10p, although you'll never see em pull RG or Lockdown.
They respect 10p for sure though. Twister side control to the twister roll, who's your daddy control to the back, spider web, back control to a variation of the swim move. All stuff they've taught before, but without the names. But like 10p, they aren't afraid to digest and utilize any technique. Mad respect!

Nah man I never met you. I've trained there before, but I'm not a student there. I'm on their online site though. I don't know if you saw the video they put up with Rafa answering questions about the leg drag after a no-gi class, but I was just tripping off the faces that you were making in the background. They had some comments open, and pretty much everyone was like "my jaw was dropping just like that brown belt in the back." He was dropping so much knowledge on there.
Here's a link: https://www.mendesbros.com/online-tr...nswers11-27-12
I wish he'd make one for the anaconda choke. He's a killer with that shit. I paid the anaconda no neverminds until Rafa wrecked shop at ADCC with it.
LOL! I am in constant amazement for sure.. I tried clicking on the link, but I'm not a member.. Maybe one day I'll own up to that price tag.. For now I'll just have to consume in real time.
Once in a while, they'll have a camera out to record techniques, but I guess sometimes I don't realize I'm being recorded, so the faces, the videos where I'm getting smashed, the pics, I'll probably never get to witness. Bummer.
I'm surprised they don't have the Anaconda choke vids up there.. He does show some nice stuff. I've been to some of their seminars where they would go over some of this as well.
I sent you a PM. They do at least have this up on youtube.

Also, Mike Nall is your source for all things Rafa related
Hey man, I'm amazed by Rafa also, probably would have had the same faces, he just makes stuff look so easy
That Leg Drag question and answer was awesome, probably better in person though like you got to experience
True. GUI has some great philosophy too, but I've noticed it's Rafa most of the time doing NoGi. What's so great about jits is every school has something to offer to the grand pot of jits. I bet if they came to our schools, they'd be intrigued by our details of twister, rg, lockdown.. I trip when some of em pull semi rg on me. It's cool!!
Holy shit, 4:51 in that OP video is a quick transtion/position switch. Lightning fast.
