David Avellon is in SoCal currently.

Dont know what the relationship between 10th planet and the Avellans is but David is in SoCal and he had said in an email to let him know if anyone wants to host a seminar. Hes doing one already,

Not as of the brown belt kumite part 3, so I had have to say no. I wouldn't expect them to either. They're successful business wise thanks to him.

So what? So they should ignore everything he has done because he helped make them money? I would expect a decent person and a honest martial artist to separate themselves from Lloyd. Anything else just screams of weak character.
Sorry this is just my opinion here, but I probably wouldn't even go to one of his seminars if he still down with Lloyd Irvin. If for no other reason than their success is shared with Lloyd. He (Lloyd) doesn't deserve to make another $ in this industry. I am sure as shit not funding his fucked up cult. :)

I have tried to stay out of the TLI bullshit, but Marcos made himself out to be a real ass during the whole debacle. I don't think I could support him or David anymore, which is sad because David might be the best pure no-gi guy out there.

Just to be crystal clear here you are referring to the incident where two of his students raped a third and the incident where lloyd was acquitted of rape charges?

Were there any other things, rape related or not, that I might not be aware of?

I sent David an email, his brother has responded to me in the past promptly.

TLI also disintegrated when it came to light that Lloyd was coercing/forcing female students to perform sexual acts with him in order to become Wold Champions. There's all sorts of threads over on UG/SD about it, hopefully this forum doesn't become clogged too. I miss pure technique discussion.

David has always personally responded to my emails and is a very nice guy. He overcame a misdiagnosis of autism as a kid, I heard, and a speech impediment. Now he does public seminars and videos. Cool story. I'd train with him if I could.

I friended him on facebook and have talked with him a couple times, he seems genuinely nice and seems to want to help Jiu Jitsu regardless of who you train with or what style.

You guys may not believe this but although I thought there could be politics involved I didn't even think about the TLI connection. I have had good interactions with the Avellons and just that they answer emails from a random white belt like me is pretty cool. Since posting this thread and before the fight started tonight I looked into this whole scandal. All I can say is I sincerely hope the Avellons distance themselves from Lloid Irvin. Sorry for bring this drama to the forum.

MOST people have distanced themselves from LI. A few have stayed by his side though. My original question was out of curiosity cause I hadnt heard whether the Avellon Brothers have or havent and I was too lazy to google the information. Ive heard they are cool cats

Thank you einstein. Im behind the redwood curtain on the lost coast. Humboldt has its perks but variety of gyms is not among them. Im at the only no-gi gym for a long way.

Eureka to Northwest training center = 331 mi, 6 hours 17 mins
Eureka to Norcal fighting alliance = 214 mi, 3 hours 37 mins
Eureka to !0th planet SanFran = 344 mi, 5 hours 53 mins

Dont get me wrong if i had the money I'd be there already, its my spring break now. Not trying to bitch I know some guys have it worse and I will get to a moon.

Don't know the avellans personally but I remember a bunch of people complaining about both Avellan and Lovato had ripped hem off somehow with online payments. Somehow signing up for one thing automatically set card holders up to pay for a years worth, which was not all above board, something of that nature. They all came off lookin very shady.

yes I remember. Something like you brought the DVD and it automatically subscribed you to some monthly payment bullshit without giving you any notice.
Also one of the Avellan brothers (David I believe) has released this 'black belt psychology'. He is NOT a psychologist LOL. I guarantee at his seminars he is heavily 'pushing products'. :-)

All I've gotten from them is a ton of free videos with what I feel is worthwhile content. To be fair people have problems with internet billing everywhere, even here.
Marcos released black belt psychology and he makes no claim to be a psychologist nor is it meant to be implied by the title. I didnt pay for it but what I've seen was some very worthwhile insights in to various aspects of combat sports, whatever else they maybe the avellons are not stupid, some of the points Marcos makes are excellent and interesting to think about.

For some reason the only thing that stands out to me about Marcos Avellan is where he showed a technique online, berimbolo no gi, he sat down xplained why you couldn't do the regular berimbolo no gi cus of grabbing the belt but that he had a LEGAL way around that then proceeded to show the technique with grabbing the waistband of the shorts real quick. Shit like that is jus dumb n he came off like a fool there. Why watch anymore techniques of he after that I don't want to learn cheating.

Grabbing the shorts in any competition is cheating, Lloyd Irvin taught some of his students how to force the knee reaping rule in IBJJF comps. That is a fucking bullshit way to win.

Well now, in most cases, the IBJJF has taught refs to look for this moving your opponent's into reaping position and the ref is supposed to DQ the attempting cheater. I have a more simple fix, just allow reaping the knee (at least at purple and up.)
