Rubber Guard By 2 Very High Level Players

Alan Belcher trains with his instructor, multiple time World BJJ Champion Helio Soneca.

Watch the video. What 2 positions do you see multiple times? The Rubber Guard and The Truck. In fact, the only time Belcher is able to slow Soneca down at all, even for a split second, is from the Rubber Guard or from The Truck.

Now, I'm sure Soneca doesn't call what he is doing the Rubber Guard. He has probably been doing it for a long time. But the point is that he uses the same principles to build a primary attacking style from his back.

Why would 2 practitioners with such high level ground games waste their time on movements that don't work?

And before someone says, "Belcher doesn't have high level BJJ..."

Soneca is a bad dude. I like the transition to arm bar after clearing the neck from Soneca too. Nice roll.

That was fucking great to watch. Man I love this system, I really do. Just so awesome to see those elements at the top level. And, not to forget to mention Helio........I love his style of Jits, its fricken sick balls. I would love to catch a session with him anytime.

Soneca's game really is beautiful. I've had the opportunity to train with him a few times and he usually blows me away with something. I took a private with him about a year ago on passing the guard . It was incredible.

The last seminar I took under him, he showed a lot of his omoplata style attacks that you saw in this video. Afterwards, I asked him how he felt about Eddie and his game. He showed 100% class and respect for Eddie. He said, "I learned my jiu jitsu from Jean Jacques Machado, who is his teacher. If I say Eddie has bad jiu jitsu, then I must say I have bad jiu jitsu. But I have great jiu jitsu."

Then he told me a story about how every time that Jean Jacques would come to pick him up for class, he would be asleep. That's how he got the name "Soneca."

Soneca looked like a 20 year old there..what energy. Inspirational to guys like me not to far from the big 40!

Soneca is the most attractive in jui jitsu. This is fact. He's 160 lbs so omo is his goto from closed guard and he's got variation for days. I got my purple under him using 10p. He appreciates our tech.

That sweep they started with is one Alan showed Eddie when they were training. Eddie said, "Thats good, but since he can elbow, try this." Then proceeded to demonstrate the boa to twistback. Alan was stuck in his ways and got beat down in bottom half by Yushin. Helio also just took his back from same posish. Once you're good, the hardest part can be to relearn.

Wow invisible collar-like to swim move to armbar...very nice. Will keep that in mind. Is this the Alan Belcher from ABMMA? Cus at the last tournament, there was a kid from ABMMA in MS that beat Cora in the finals. Have to book mark this thread for future reference.

I watched that and was thinking it looked like an awesome idea. Deep half to the truck is pretty sick. There's something there, we just gotta figure it out.

I lost count of how many times I hit rewind at 1:48. Damn that was beautiful. It's a damn shame that Soneca is basically banned from BJJ events. He looks like he's still got it in him to tear some brackets up.

I had the same observation bro. But Alan's got some good years in him. If he can make the right adjustments, he could work his way to a title shot.

Its kinda like chilldog that Helio does, but it's not. He moves through it, like many high level guard players. Still very effective. Eddie made it a control position by hugging the knee throughout. I would be a straight up asshole to tell Soneca anything about jj. But hug tha damn knee.
