Cora has inspired

My girls were training in 10PJJ for about 9 months now I guess.

I had to make a tough decision and kicked my youngest out. That sounds harsh, but really I asked her if she enjoyed it, if she wanted to continue doing it, etc, and she told me it's not really fun for her and she is not enjoying it, and she's bored when she's there.
I already knew that in my heart anyways. I have had to ground her from JJ in the past when she was acting like it was recess at a jungle gym and not behaving with respect.

The big thing to me was this though: she was dragging my 12 year olds progress down. My 12 year old is taking her jits seriously, and loves it. She wants to rep hard, with an engaged Uki.
My 10 year old would be lazy and disengaged, which led to incessant fighting, bickering, arguing, and there were times that I had to dismiss them from class when it was still going on, commanding them to sit in a corner until class was over so they wouldn't distract everyone. Again, sounds harsh, but I am traditional at heart, and the Dojo is a place for excellent conduct and highest respect.

Anyways, a few things have happened since I grounded my youngest from Jiu Jitsu until she is truely interested in it. My 12 year old has progressed almost overnight. She is tightening up her game, working guard to armbars, and in the scramble she is oftentimes taking back and ending rolls with the RNC. She is seriously a beginner and has a long way to go, like her daddy, but she has got MAD potential and heart. She is inspired by Cora (We watch her vids together and talk about technique) and inspired by Ronda Rousy.

Cora's videos are also making my youngest daughter pay attention to JJ more now. The last couple weeks my 10 year old has been telling me that she wants to come back. She is also telling my wife and my parents and my in-laws as well. They all tell her that we have to work it out. (Her and I)

Here's the thing though - I thought she only wanted to come back because I am bringing my 12 year old to the Detroit Seminar and she was jealous. Legit because she never really talked about returning to Jitz until she heard that I was taking my 12 year old to Detroit.

Anyways, she convinced me otherwise by constantly lamenting the fact that we are going to class without her, and she was watching more Cora videos tonight, by herself.

So: I haven't told her yet, but I am going to take her with us to D-town for the seminar.
I have to have a sit-down-talk with her, and be convinced that she actually wants to learn and do Jiu Jitsu, but I pre-registered her anways because I figure the seminar might light a fire in her heart for 10PJJ.

Anyways, long story but I am really excited because my 12 year old is starting to understand live rolling now, which will help my 10 year old of course! For obvious reasons, I want them to both master Jiu Jitsu, or at least never stop trying to master it. So thanks Bruce, for being so involved in Cora's JJ path, being so suppportive and always filming and posting films.

And thanks Master Eddie, for the system we try to master! My kids are star-struck with you and can't wait to meet you in person. They don't give a shit about lady Gaga, but when I remind my 12 year old we are going to meet you, she screams like a beatles fan.

And thanks Stew, for being a friend, instructor and mentor, and everything you do for us.

Awwww Kurzy, that was really nice. I think with both of them in JJ, they will progress that much faster as they have partners to roll or drill with. Cora only have me and I'm too fat to do some of the move like swim move because I might smash on her. I will keep the videos coming, maybe your young one see that there are other 10 yr old out there doing JJ and she might relate to someone her age better. In any case, we will do what we always do...which is sharing our story.

Tell the girls there will be more videos coming. Cora has another tournament this weekend here in Houston. Next weekend she might have 2 tournaments, on Sat she will have Matshark in San Antonio and MAYBE we will drive to Dallas on Sunday for NAGA. That is still a maybe like 75%. Will keep you posted.

Glad to hear she's getting back into it and hope it sticks. I have my doubts that my daughter will be into it but luckily I have 2 boys that I think will love it as much as me. Anyways pretty cool she's showing interest again.

Cora's highlight reel is powerful as hell, inspirational at an insane level. There is no competition rubber guard footage that smooth that exists. Yes, those boys didn't defend properly but that doesn't change the fact that Cora was doing things on that video that grown ass men havnt done yet, even the best RG players out there.

People are seriously trippin out watchin that video of tremendous guard display. She's inspiring more than little girls, she's inspiring me as well although in some cultures I am considered a little girl :-)

Yeah I watched it with my wife and kids this morning. The part at 3.30+ just blew me away. So fucking slick and smooth with the transitions and they are lightening fast too.
My 7 year old has just started jiu jitsu and loving it so far. My youngest starts in August as soon as he turns 4 too. Think I am going to send Cora's dad a message to see how he keeps her motivated etc. He is clearly doing a fantastic job with her. Congrats. :)

That was my initial thought, but it didn't end up being that way. I thought they would drill together and improve together, and help each other, but in actuality all they were doing was bickering and arguing.
Most of their JJ experience is repping. They didn't roll with each other because they would end up getting frustrated and arguing, etc.
After seeing my 12 year old roll with some boys last night, I was blown away. She is focused and pumped on JJ. She is learning it and applying it. My youngest wants back in now, and that's good.
Especially since we have some new students that are closer to her size. Her little break was beneficial to both of them in the end!

Not that I know anything about raising siblings (I don’t), but if two students don’t work well together, don’t pair them even if another factor would make you want to (they are the closest size skill level whatever). Better to have a bit more of a difference in something else then two students that won’t get anything done, especially in drilling. Just my first thought with me not knowing all the details.

Brian: will you be at this weekend tournament? Grand prix grappling? I love to see you in action.

There are some new kids that are closer to their size that they will be working with now. It'll all be good I think.

I can't wait to see some of your girls' tournament vids....:) I'm so pumped because I'm seeing and hearing more and more of 10thplanet kids coming out. We need to flood the internet with their vids.

I don't think they are ready for tournaments yet....

You said your 12 yr old been doing 10thplanet stuff for 9 months now? I think she is ready, Cora been doing 10th for 5 months. Can you imagine if your girls, Cora, Grace, and 100 more like them from all over the world, rubber guarding kids and having their videos online, what would the effect be on the main stream traditional JJ players be like?? I think that would make a huge statement...:)

Well Cora was doing JJ for a couple years before she added 10P to her game, right? My girls have trained once a week for nine months, and even then they have missed time. They're not at tournament level yet, but my oldest will probably be ready soon.

What I find with Cora, although she was doing JJ for about a year and half before she started to compete, there wasn't much there to be honest. She didn't improve at all. What I find is that when she starts to compete at tournament, that is when she starting to improve. And of course the learning curve shot through the roof when I injected 10thplanet into her game. THe same with the other kids at the gym, those that don't compete regularly doesn't improve much. I guess they feel as if there is no need to improve. But those that competes, they improve alot, guess due to them feeling like they have to get better in order to be competitive, thus the cycle started. I can't wait to see your daughter in action...:)

So glad you're kids are inspired to train Kurzy. That itself is a beautiful thing! I have 3 daughters. I'm really hoping to teach them the system once I get better at it myself.

I was trying some rubber guard today and as I was trying to transition I thought 'What would Cora do now?' No joke haha! She really makes it look so effortless!

nay bro, you are not the first to say it. When I roll with Cora, I wanted to so BAD to put that rubber guard on her, but my legs are as flexible as a pine tree. Cora made fun of me as I'm trying to pull that move. She always laughs at me and ask me what i'm doing. I say "rubber guard"...she LOL. Its crazy, I'm teaching her all of this but I can't even do it myself...go figure.

haha! Many fine coaches were never participants themselves. And rubber guard ain't easy if you don't have good flexibility haha :D

Some of the best coaches don't actually do the sport themselves. My friend is a Gymnastics coach, as is his father. They churn out champion medal winners all the time and can't do a front somersault.

THen I guess I'm in good company..:)
