Firstly, welcome :)
It's all up to you dude. Ideally, I would suggest takin a 10th planet class if there is a moon nearby. If not, maybe get a training partner n try some stuff from the books or that you see on mastering the system. Obviously don't go for the advanced move but have a look through n see what seems achievable. Start small n just drill it over and over until you are comfortable with it. I did somethin similar but now have a moon 15 mins from my house which is excellent.
Lockdown.
Get the books and lose some weight IMO.
Work on gaining position and control, don't rush to learn submissions. Train with guys who are better then you and get used to tapping, and I recomend the books Mastering the rubber guard by Eddie Bravo and Jiu-jitsu University by Saulo Ribeiro for starting out. Who do you train BJJ under?
half guard
I've never been to a 10th planet school, but my friend has trained with Eddie at a seminar and he is a brown belt in judo so I have been just drilling techniques with him for a few months and I don't even have a traditional BJJ school around me to attend. It's super fun! I would say your best bet is starting off with the lockdown and half guard, that's where we started.
(first post too btw!) Good luck!
Iam iam in a local gracie garage
Welcome to 10th Planet!
deff lock down path and twister side control. I'm also 5'11" and about 285 arm locks and chokes are always golden to learn but position and keeping it is a must good luck my man :)
Bobby Rivers.
WTF, go to 10th planet St. Paul!!!! It's right there in Woodbury.
Mastering the rubber guard dvd comes today
I get dvd mastering the rubber guard today
I asked to show me 10th planet moves and they said we dont teach a class in just 10th planet moves if i remember
i just get masting the rubber guard dvd their alot on it so what should i take from it like how many moves should i start out learning
can someone tell me more about mts the Pros? the Cons and how it all works
so far i like mastering the rubber guard good dvd iam on the 2 disk
MTS is just $5 per month and has the stuff Eddie is teaching his students on it. No cons at all. :)
Welcome by the way :)
None of the classes differentiate 10th Planet from BJJ; it is integrated throughout all of the JJ classes. A class focused on half-guard might show lockdown->whip up->old school but then also cover a similar sweep from traditional half. So no, there are no strictly "10th Planet" classes at St. Paul but we are very much a 10th Planet school. It follows from Eddie's philosophy that 10th Planet is part of the larger world of BJJ. It is the 10th Planet philosophy that we never stop evolving and developing the art that is key to the 10PJJ mindset. We use what works and discard what doesn't. The rest is just semantics. Eddie has been in for seminars as have others (Cyborg Abreu was just here last year).
Both Tim and Nate are purple belts under Eddie and Tim is a certified Gracie Barra instructor in the gi. On top of that, Mario Roberto (to my knowledge, the highest ranking black belt in MN) teaches MMA and no-gi JJ on Saturday mornings. He is very welcoming of 10th Planet techniques and philosophy. Come on in and hang out for a while. We have a great group that is very friendly and welcoming and nobody intent on just going Hulk-smash on you. You'll get tapped, but nobody is douchy about it. :) Hope to see you there!
i will be their for a month when i do the summer deal but i use gracie jiu jitsu as my jiu jitsu base.
what moves should i add to my game starting out am 5'11 240lbs no long legs i now have masting the rubber guard dvd i get on wenesay
see i have adhd so learning for me vs learning for other people is alot harder then so that why i need to know if the online stuff is the way to go to start or if i need his books or his dvds plus teaching me stuff in a 1 min video is hard for me to pick up on
i forget say i use rubber guard on thursday but the guys at my gracie garage were not inpress by some of the moves i was doing
