My wife has her first MMA fight and wins via submission at 1:25 of round 2

Had a bit of a snafu over the weight... For a 145lb fight Jess weighed in at 145 and her opponent weighed in at 158. The athletic commision wouldn't sign off on such a wide difference so Jess chugged a bunch of water, ate a bunch of bananas, and weighed back in fully clothed with a bunch of stuff stashed in her pockets. That put them close enough for the commssion to provide a weight waiver for her to sign.

She's still pretty new but she makes good use of the lockdown. The weekend before this she tore a girls MCL with it at the Indy moon's sub only tournament.

Man, that was a great fight! Your wife stayed calm and collected, didn't panic and just consistently took back the dominant position at every turn.
And that americana escape at the end was beautiful!

Indiana has a split ammy system: your first three fights are considered "Novice Amature." In those three fights you are not allowed to strike to the head while on the ground. After you have your three fights to get your feet wet you are considered "Advanced Amature" and grounded strikes to the head follow the unified rules for mma.

We all were. If you watch you can see the ref move in because even she thought it was over. Jessicas subs are good but her sub defense is exceptional for someone at her level. Going in the idea was to not fight the takedown because of the other girl's size/strength advantange and just work sweeps for the finish. The other girl was like 5'3" and walks around at about 165. That center of gravity is basically on the floor. Jess is looking to fight again on August 24, so we're going to watch this like crazy and try to get everything a little tighter before then.

Her spiderweb transitions and maintenance are still pretty weak, but if you watch the first round you can see her think about the arm triangle after she gets the first sweep.
