What do y'alls think?
What did he say? I watched it but there was s roomful of us and everyone was talking.
From memory he said something along the lines of "Eddie is a guy who solely made his name by beating my uncle"
To me it came across like he didn't think Eddie should be there, I may be wrong.
Royler never said a word and he seemed to smile and be friendly but Ralek came off looking like an assclown.
Meh.
Haters gonna hate.
I thought it was, yeah. Eddie clearly thought so, too.
But, who cares. Ralek's opinion on the subject is of no value except that it encourages him to finally make it happen.
I just cant take that guy serious after sitting through the entire "G in a Gi" video haha. He would probably turn me into a pretzel but I'd get back up and say "and what the fuck that mean?! You still a G in a Gi!" haha:cool:
Well G in a Gi fucking sucked. Shoes on the other foot now.
What did Ralek make his name off of? Being born a Gracie. Gtfoh. Besides, why is it 10 years away from that fight and Eddie/10th planet is more successful than ever? And half the new guys are clueless about the Royler fight. Why? Royler may have been Eddies most noteworthy fight, but Eddie built 10thP on his own vack, not off beating Royler. To be honest, I don't even care about that fight. What drew me was Eddies creativity and philosophy. I give a damn about a 10 year old fight.
That said, I doubt Royler has dealt with any high level 10th planet material. On the other hand, I believe that Eddie has encountered 100 "Roylers" in the past 10 years. That said, Eddie wins via some beautiful artistry.
I thought it was disrespectful and was disappointing given that Royler seemed quite respectful in his comments which hasn't always been the case in some of the interviews I have seen of him.
those guys are extremely arrogant. just listen to the way rener and ralek talk. i half expected it to happen anyway.
but none of that matters at all. the fight will happen. win or lose eddie is the man and im down with 10p till the day i die :)
I stopped listening to what the gracie's say ever since this piece of shit surfaced
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBYmZsUjSFE
That video is soo bad my brother and I use it like a whitty insult. Ill walk by and and be like "your a G in a Gi" haha
Oh man, that song is embarrassing.
"This shit'll get heavy like tons of broccoli"?
Wow.
WTF is this a song ?terrible
how big is raleks head compared to eddies and roylers its really big
Wow, thanks guys, I now have that "G in a Gi" song stuck in my head, where it will remain for the next 20 years before I have to remove it with incredibly invasive surgery as a last ditch effort to regain my sanity.
Really, thanks a bunch.
I thought it was disrespectful. I didn't even know about the fight between Eddie and Royler till last night so I guess it didn't make him as famous as Ralek thinks.
"Eddie gained a ton of recognition by being the only muthafuka bad enough to sub my uncle in competition. His unorthodox nogi based style got credibility and notoriety after that victory. It was well deserved because nobody just gets lucky and accidentally triangles my uncle, who is one of the greatest jj competitors of all time."
I'm sure that's what Ralek meant.
I don't think it was disrespectful... I think that sometimes Brazilians sometime project things that may seem disrespectful, without trying to be disrespectful.
I don't think the statement itself was disrespectful; there is no doubt that without that win Eddie wouldn't have been catapulted into the spotlight and been able to build his business and reputation in the same manner. He would have still built his army, but it would have been a different path.
But I think Ralek intended to downplay Eddie there. And that was uncalled for.
Fuel to the fire, IMO.
Man, fuck Ralek. I don't care what he said about Eddie. He has no bearing on this. Eddie subbed Royler for whatever reason. Some shit has been talked over the years. NOW, Eddie AND Royler both are acting very respectful towards each other. Remember, Eddie was a BROWN BELT when he submitted probably the best practitioner in the world at the time. Of course, people are going to say things like, "Wow, lucky break for that Eddie kid." Eddie is no longer a brown belt. He is as legit as they come. And if he can go on that stage and say, "I think Royler would win 6 out of 10 times, not 9 out of 10", then that's class, that's respect, plus it's standing up for himself and what he believes, and it's good enough for me. Fuck everyone else. The only two people who matter here are Eddie and Royler.
Be nice, be nice, he's just a G in a gi. I thought that was abundantly clear. Slightly offensive, but for a guy who's best friends with Joey Diaz it gets hard to calibrate offensive I think nowadays, lol.
The fight got me to look at 10P, but it was the philosophy that got me to stay. The Gracies forget their own past and look down on those who are doing exactly what their grandparents had done.
I only got to watch the matches on youtube. Does anyone have a clip of when the announced the fight?
Again with the perfect insights! Exactly. Would Eddie REALLY have schools all over the world and competitors like Denny, Mike DeWitt, and Adam Sachnoff if the only thing he'd ever done was tap Royler? Anyone who actually believes that is just too delusional to reason with and isn't worth the time anyway.
It made me mad, that he would show his true colours and lack of organisation for such a huge event, so easily. You gotta be a little delusional to think that they would be professional and respectful and 'playful' anyway. The hate is more than ever trust me. Difference is, that its behind our back instead of in our faces, as many of us can and will back it up! Sorry I cant say the same for them. I don't hate on anyone or any system. I love jiu jitsu. Thats what counts.
I think he was trying to be clever but he lacks the natural suave that it takes to function as an MC at those type of events. Rener seemed pretty professional but Ralek seemed like the goofball brother they threw a bone to so he wouldn't whine like a little punk for not getting to help out. Ralek also seemed condescending towards Royce during that odd "lifetime achievement" ceremony.
I thought it was disrespectful. I mostly thought the entire event save the Galvao and Lovato match was disrespectful.
The Gracie family aren't all dicks but it really seems like everyone on Helio's side of the family is.
Maybe this rematch is bringing a lot of suppressed or hidden emotions out from the Gracies. It is possible that the respect that has been shown thus far has been a front. It would make sense because every so often they let a little hate slip out. Idk, just saying.
I could see how it comes off disrespectful...you felt it in the arena when he sad it but its all how you take it i guess.
Just get on the mat and let the jiu jitsu do the talking at this point. All the matches were decent, except the Shcaub one of course. Super bummed Coop wasn't on the card would have been so much better. The crowd was the craziest, it was super diverse all type of people there you wouldn't think would be.
