Very good video! This is my bread and butter, my A-game, the whizzer game from top half. Not a bad job showing the D'arce. Couple details he talks about let's you know he actually uses this move. Great control using the 101 pass style of positionig. Looks very, very refined. A little different (no vice), but often times I don't use the vice either. Great vid Jack. Thanks.

Some great details here. You def need that knee out though. Lockdown and the whip down change the way this position is played for sure
Absolutely. In fact if your knee is free it will make it easier for you to finish the choke. By trapping your lower leg they're locking their own hips into place so once you have the choke on tight they think they're trying to defend the choke and keep you from sliding out. But if they were smart they'd let the leg go and try to outrun the choke. It also makes them think about the choke and the pass. it's harder to defend 2 things than 1.Quote:

You can see a lot of top level dudes knee slicing into a choke from the top and leaving a foot behind so that their opponent wraps up their lower leg thinking it's a good idea. It's also one reason why I've stayed away from the lockdown the past couple years. Maybe I just need some more advanced teaching on it but I don't like my A-Game to be one that's going to lock my hips into place. Maybe my lockdown just need to be more active?
I do like the lockdown if I'm in deep water and need to regain some ground.
You have to stay mobile with the lockdown. That's a huge part of being effective with your lockdown game. With that being said, not everybody is going to be a lockdown player.Quote:

Amen to this. Darce/JNT/PNT is my go-to right now because I am lacking in experience, but I am comfortable with that series of moves, but I know exactly what you're talking about because if a guy has half or quarter guard on me it is tough to get the depth and leverage needed for those sub positions.Quote:

Sean...my whip up sucks so I developed a very tight lockdown game where I let them get head control so I can clench with an over hook and wait for 5.0 sweep Apollo or transition to Cacoon. Most of my partners are 185lbs and up with good top pressure so whip up is a let down
If you add a good whizzer pimp to that you may be OK, but a guy with a strong dominator or shoulder smash pass will wear you down and pass from there. Especially if you aren't whipping or pimp arming.Quote:
