10th Planet HQ Grapplers Quest Matches

We took a smaller group this time and I'll let West LA account for their own group's performance but we won some medals, broke some hearts, and instilled fear into the minds of our enemies at Grapplers Quest this weekend.

Curtis Hembroff, our strength and conditioning coach, finished an Intermediate match with a variant of the Muddy Waters path. Instead of locking the far side shoulder, Curtis likes to triangle his own foot for a tight leg clench that allows him to finish the armbar.http://youtu.be/eAGplPa5_e4

George Jauregui lost this match on points but if you look at what happens at around 36 seconds, his opponent tapped. Unfortunately, when the ref doesn't see it, it didn't happen. http://youtu.be/yesNYeghQvo

Calvin Curtin should have won this match. He lost by an advantage point but the ref gave his opponents 2 points for a sweep - but shouldn't have because there was no control after the sweep. Great jiu jitsu from both guys though. http://youtu.be/goRSdfs2j08

Teddie Carter, our heavyweight who has vowed to soon be light heavyweight, lost his match by an advantage point in the final seconds of his match - the worst way to lose (0-0, with one advantage point to his opponent.). However, Teddie's work with Rob Rodriguez is clearly paying dividends - he's working that Russian as if he were a lifelong member of the Communist Party. http://youtu.be/xOVwTeMRF84

Marco Navarro (aka Krieg) competed for the first time and did a good job with the Jaws of Life and then bum rushed his opponent with the dogfight to get a sweep. Good techniques but he lost by points. http://youtu.be/-zvADNAk6bA
