One of the few men to beat Marcelo in comp. He's amazing and that was a beautiful philosophy that's hard to disagree with.
Are you tryin to start another gi/nogi rant Eric?:)
That D' 'Clean' Denes is one of the most underrated jj guys eva? Don't play coy. You know the three lines in question here. Me, you, and Eric have been here since site1. I have been completely impartial to good grappling in general. I compete in gi and no i every time. Successfully and smashed(in gi mostly).
Give me some credit homie.
Is this the guy that's Chop Certified?
Ok you guys need to help me out. I always felt like I was up on bjj culture and prominent figures and stuff. I've never heard of him. I saw there is a bjj hero's page for him + a sherdog record, but is this guy another Renato Laranja? I looked at other youtube vidoes, he is American and speaks English without an accent. For 75% of this interview he had an accent and even mixed up his diction in someone typical ESL fashion. Before I went any further I thought I would ask.
or is this a parody?
the logic seemed like it was intended to be funny like a Renato video: "break down the words Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, come from Brazil."
the pose at 0:45 was very Renato-esq
Yeah, I thought the accent was funny as well. I've never seen him that laid back before either. He has always been over the top intense. I've seen several guys slowly acquire Brazilian accents tho. Its weird and he's def a little weird, but he's for real on the mats.

Yeah he's american but he lived in brazil for several years, came back and opened an academy in Florida and has moved back and is living in Brazil again for the past year and a half. He's fluent in portuguese and while living in Brazil only speaks that and no english so I think thats where the accent comes in. The pussification video is when he was back in the states for over a year. http://youtu.be/escGEv9mVeg
I'm sure he is legit on the mats and I don't know him personally. He also beat Marcelo Garcia which is fucking incredible. But, it is kinda weird that he is willing to fake an accent. That makes it seem like he is trying to be a part of a club. When he talks about the importance of the gi, it makes me feel like he has a dog in the race (i.e. fitting in with the people who's accent he is faking). Obviously I don't know him personally but I think it is a good instinct to use circumstantial evidence of a persons level of bias when he is presumed to have authority (i.e. because he is an accomplished competitor). It certainly doesn't mean you can't learn from him. I really value people who are able to speak the truth, regardless of outside influences. When somebody seems willing to drink somebody else's kool-aid, it kind makes me proceed cautiously.
I would train with him in a heartbeat.
Clean is featured in Jiu Jitsu Magazine Dec issue (with Cyborg on the cover) as one of the pioneer americans to go to Brazil to train BJJ with the legends
Yeah I don't think hes faking it, just picking it up when in brazil....
