GRACIE NATIONALS 2014 (inter-moon competition)

This Gracie Nationals I will award the moon with the most gold medals a "2014 Gracie Nationals Champions" banner(like the Moon of the Year banner). It will include a pic of the moon head and the most impressive competitor as well. It will stay up on this site for a year.

I want this inter-moon competition to remain super mad ultra friendly, no douchebaggery will be tolerated. There will be epic inter-moon matches but always remember that, ultimately, we are all a team, a brotherhood, a strong family.

The local moons definitely have an advantage in numbers, but outside moons can still pull it off if they bring a handful of ringer soldiers and they all get gold medals, so 10p Omaha, Santa Fe, Chicago, Coquitlam, Sherman, Rochester, Montreal, yalls gonna jump in? :)

Myself, Rubes, and Kyle at least. I imagine a good 2 or 3 more than that. We've been steady going to the Gracie tournaments with 6-9 guys so I imagine this time will be no different.

Rose Gracie just told me that she will be giving $250 to the head instructor who's moon has the most gold medals. I'm gonna throw in another $250, so that's $500 to the top moon :)

I agree. I considered doing worlds in the summer but it doesn't appear to get a good women's turnout based on previous years brackets. I could get to 135 but with new same day weigh ins and flying out it would be rough.

Yeah, I MIGHT be able to hit 135 but like you said with same day weigh-ins...no way. I think every tournament should at least 3 bracket. 135 below, 135.6-158, and 158.1 and above... AT LEAST.

I understand the concerns with bracketing but IMO give us the chance. Sean did 2 female Dream tournaments in SoCal this year. I believe the first one had 149 women ( not sure if it was gi or no gi) and the second one, which I did, had 49 females (No-gi).
Maybe some better marketing? Truthfully, I don't see a bunch about Gracie Nationals/Worlds unless it comes from Eddie, or another 10p outlet. I have a never heard any of my BJJ female friends talk about it. Right or wrong, maybe there should be a discount for females until it gets going? half price registration?

I'm constantly commenting on how tournaments are not female friendly. My boyfriend just reminds me that until there are more of us, we will be an after thought to organizers. It is difficult to get more women to enter competitions because of the vast weight classes but they won't change until there is a demand for it.

Although it won't work now that I'm doing expert, when I would compete and have no one in my division, I would always request to go up a skill level rather than a weight class. I'd much rather lose to someone better than someone much heavier. I'm already one of the lightest in my division as it is. If there were three weight classes I would consider doing worlds but not as it is now since I could get a Gabi Garcia size girl!

I had to move up a weight class more than once. One time I had a 209 girl in my bracket... Boy, was my asshole puckered. I ended up getting her with a belly down arm bar, but shit, I was soooo worried about getting hurt.

Damn if they do, damn if they don't. But unless they do offer more brackets, the women aren't going to compete. They need to open the brackets and then deal with re-doing them fairly after registration closes, rather than not having the at all.
