I've been using spiral but a lot of the time I'm just inverting or granbying around back and forth without much sweep success. I get leg locks and sweeps against less experienced training partners but I really have no fucking idea what I'm doing. :confused: What's your go to guard against a standing opponent looking to pass?
Against a standing opponent, you basically get REALLY good at warm ups H :)
Yup. Dlr, rdlr, butterfly, x-guard and all it's variations. Lots of material

Stand up yourself, clinch and pull butterfly guard. From there you get either overhook or underhook and work the sweep. Classic JJ Machado.
I like the basic butterfly..hands on the ankles push pull sweep. I have a decent amount of reps on it so I have a decent success rate.
I need to work on my x guard set ups. I focused on my passing and top game this past year and have neglected other parts parts of the game. At least I know what to work on now. :)Quote:

IMO the only real answer to your question is "the guard/sweep that your opponent is giving you". Open guard/passing the guard are easily the most complex and important positions in Jiu Jitsu. There's no such thing as getting good at one open guard because they all work off each other. If you're not working X, DLR, RDLR, Inverted, 50/50, Sit Up, Spider etc... your guard has major holes in it. The key is knowing how these guards intertwine. As far as I'm concerned, passing/sweeping should be 90% of your focus in training.
