Must check out.
What's stopping bottom guy going with the roll and using both hands to push off and block the hooks from going in? looks like a good scrambler would resist the completed back take doesn't it? The rolls the easy part getting good hooks is another story. I could see this ending up with the turtelee on top, ready to scrape. Yes there's a risk of opening up the neck for the choke but this starts in a bad spot to begin with. Personally I think the system has better options already, my opinion.
I see an unorthodox choke here :) Chris, true, I was thinking the same thing. But look at the position before the roll.
^^^
This
well that's a standard rear naked risky defense. yes a good scrambler can use his/her hands to try to unhook or prevent the hooks, but in the process , the guy in the back can get the hands under the chin, which is very dangerous, we see them in rolling all the time. plus the guy in the back have better body control, so he can go the back again or abandon that and go to side control
My minds expanding thanks in fact since signing up to MTS it's been squeegeed. Jean Jacques quote notwithstanding; Being open minded doesnt mean accepting everything without question.
I like the roll. Marcelo does too. All I'm thinking from here is truck truck truck. Expand your truck game. I know there's a risk of being choked but you think top level guys are that easy to choke? Maybe but then maybe they get choked from the starting position sometimes too.
Yeah lets not listen to the ADCC competitor that was seconds away from beating Kron. What does he know anyway?
Its similiar to the leo viera snap roll, I dig it.
There ways to get the hooks following the roll if they defend by bringin the knees to elbows. Get butterfly hooks under their legs stretch them out one at a time and put the hooks in.
You mean the one where he used the truck so effectively?
I'm lookin to make constructive observations. No need for the passive aggression bro. Tonin as good as he is is an outsider we already have options in our system. The truck, swim move set ups as well as all the traditional shit that is proven to work from turtle.
Thanks Zog would love to see more of the details you speak of.
I trained with Gary for about 8 weeks last year. His game is incredible, and it works on everyone, big or small. Just rolling with him I leveled up everytime. Being able to feel that next level, it was eye opening.
I don't see many leg locks in the traditional system. Sure there's a few calf slices, a heel hook from the knot, a toe hold or two, but even Eddie himself has said he doesn't go for them much. Me on the other hand, I look for leg locks from everywhere.
I could demonstrate leg locks from passing open guard, from inside guard, from having someone on your back. They are not in the system, but this doesn't make them incorrect, or secondary options when they are my go to's.
Jiu jitsu is your game, make it work for you. If you like it add it, if you don't, do not. If you think at this stage in your game you are better off following only the system because its simpler that way and that works for you, that's awesome. That's what it's here for. That's why we all love it.
But there are more options. Eddie may preach M1, where I like taking heel hooks.
I love 10th Planet, but there are other good set ups out there. Can't hurt to be open minded as a blue belt when you are still finding your game. You may just try something new and love it.
I was just thinking about this video the other day! I've tried it in class before and it's slick as fuck.
Thanks for the reminder, Chauncey! :D
I honestly don't know what I've said to get this kinda heat fam. I haven't disrespected Gary in fact I rate him as highly as you all do.
It's unlike me to do this but I' don't know what else to say at this point so I'm jus gonna drop this here and head off to another thread now.. What is it you ask?? Oh, only me convincingly beating a seasoned black belt of many years, something I'm not sure many blue belts finding their game can say they've done. 10P4L I got love for you all.

I saw this video a while back and I think it is the same technique!
I like it and have played around with it rolling.

Here we go! 1:30 mark
I use this all the time and I kill with it. the presence of the seatbelt and close proximity to the neck almost always me to get a hook in. If not, I use marcelo's back control technique holding on to the seatbelt and sprawling back maintaining dominant position.
What are you a purple belt in, being a prick?
I don't wanna come off as a giant turd sack cus I quietly eat breathe sleep and piss 10P
But I ain't some run of the mill blue belt either. I ain't goin into what I've sacrificed for this system but let's jus say I need my credit where it's due. Same way I need my lettuce when it's new.
If you can't respect that you can go train in a gi for all I care Eric.
whoa whoa whoa take it easy, it was a simple question.
Yeah, I guess I really don't have much exp in the truck. But in this video you can see he doesn't get his hooks in but is still at an advantageous position.
Draculino rocking fangs haha
Holy fuck this thread took off!!
1. Kevin Reed laying down the pipe of knowledge for you MoMo's....big ups werm hopefully i get a chance to come down there to Vista and get some rolls in!
2.How douchey is it to post a video of you "beating" a "black belt" to prove you've got cred!!?? How does this prove your point is valid about the video? That has to be the lamest shit EVER!! So what if you took a black belt down, you didn't even SUBMIT him!! You took him down and won on points GROSS!! Your wack as fuck for that!! You fight MMA, and TAKE DOWN black belts, and been putting your time in, blah blah blah if that's the mindset you have your LOST....and you should be ashamed of yourself.
You got your "trouser's" all knotted up because no one went along with you picking apart my thread with a simple back take. Instead they did, what you should have thought to do, which is leave a helpful or encouraging comment. But noooo you see it and post some pompous "im better that you post" without even trying it and got shot down like you did on your prom night. You might be a blue belt that takes down black belts in jiu jitsu but your a wanker who takes shit up the ass in real life. Cheerio!
3. I have been finding success with this guys my size and smaller, especially when i fake the hooks and snap it real quick i can even get clear enough to get the hooks in, on guys my level so far. Imma keep drilling it keep you guys updated...if guys better than me are doing it,(Draculino & Gary Tonon) it must be right.
Wow, what a post. You just made this thread 10x worse with an all out attack and sarcastic quotation marks. Chris makes a decent point and a decent post and gets passive aggressive sarcasm thrown at him, no wonder he felt he had to defend himself a bit; it's like someone questioning his knowledge of JJ and making it out that his opinion isn't worth shit.
Chris never picked apart anything, all he done was throw out an opinion and because it wasn't some nuthugging post he is suddenly a "wanker who takes shit up the ass in real life".
You stay classy, Chauncey.
Ok lets address the douchey/pompous points as i brought them up in my previous post:
How are you gonna give insight, or make a comment on something u haven't tried? I posted this video and i got an immediate response, i highly doubt he saw it, grabbed a partner and started drilling it right away as to give a feedback. Then had the nerve to say the "systems already has better options" duhhhh there is always is a better option this is just ANOTHER option. Like im trying to reinvent the system?! example of pompousness no.1
Now what does a video of you winning a black belt have to do with this post or give you cred? No one was discrediting him, he jumped to that conclusion all on his own. (douchery example no.2) So to show he has cred he posted a video of him "beating" a "seasoned black belt" come on lets just go around telling people the highest level guy or gal we have beat so we can seem accredited. Not very humble if u ask me, and that's not what jiu jitsu is about...and that is 3rd douchey/pompous example
douchey/pompous example no. 4 Chris decides to tell us the hes "no run of the mill blue belt" and all that he "sacrificed for this system" and that "I need my credit where it's due". HA! what the fuck here you go with your credit again, are you paying bills with these jiu jitsu credits you deserve? Is that why u need them? All 3 of those quotes are what pompous assholes say. No way to get around it. It might have seemed harsh but if your gonna say some douchey pompous shit imma call u out on it especially being a 10p brother making us look bad, that's bad for the system.
Always classy and a lil nasty, Fraser.
It's all about interpretations man and reading text on a screen never fully conveys what people mean. That's kinda the problem here. I think it was more so Eric Perez's posts were fairly sarcastic and Chris went on the defensive, I suppose nobody likes being questioned and maybe to Chris it seemed people were discrediting his opinions but he's a good dude and certainly isn't big-headed or pompous from any encounters I've had with him. Just crossed wires and having a bad day perhaps. :)
Who cares if my posts were sarcastic? If you dont have a sense of humor go on with yo bad self. To discredit a move that you haven't tried in my opinion is stupid. However claiming to be open minded like 10PJJ is supposed to be and acting that way was a little ironic. Then who gives a crap if you beat a shitty black belt? Not all doctors are the same. Some go to Harvard and some go to medical schools in the caribbean just like not all black belts are the same either. Same thing happened on Zogs ghost technique video. Some newb trying to tell him his shit don't work. If you have a certain feeling keep it to Yoself. When I heard he sacrificed a lot for jiu jitsu i started crying and playing a violin for him like I give a damn. And just like my idol Andrew Dice Clay I held up a drink and toasted to Chris and said "Here's to you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sucking my dick". Hows that for sarcasm Frasier? Now go back and cry to Niles and Martin and the rest of the cast of the TV show.
Haha wow, I never cried to anyone, only tried to defuse things a little bit because I know Chris isn't he way he has been portrayed in this thread, he's a good guy. Things just got a bit mixed up man, there's no need to turn into Ultimate Warrior.
But yeah, I'll go cry to Niles, Martin, their wee dog, that chick and anyone else in the TV show Frasier. A show that bears a close resemblance to my name. How witty.
I never made any attack or anything towards you mate, your posts were sarcastic. Maybe you're upset at me saying they were 'fairly' sarcastic and you were going for 'really' sarcastic? You know, not all doctors are the same and not all black belts are the same; just like sarcastic people, they can be so different...
Increase the peace mother fuckers. LOL. The problem with message boards is that we don't have non verbal cues. We can't hear tone. We can't see facial expressions of body language. Truthfully, Chris' initial statement wasn't that bad. His response was bad. LOL. But his initial question is not bad.
Hopefully everyone can relax and not take things too personal.
First, if your first instinct is to reach down to block the hooks you're opening yourself to get choked. Consider Marcelo vs Viera. Marcelo had no hooks, Viera went to defend the hooks, Marcelo latched on the choke with no hooks and choked him to sleep.
You don't always need hooks. Also, a body triangle is an option. But yeah, with the guy defending the choke (which is proper basics), the hooks are a lot easier to get.
It's a good technique. A very good technique.
When you are attacking and/or controlling the back the single most important aspect is the seatbelt grip with a strong connection between your chest and your opponent's upper back. That's what provides the "invisible jiu jitsu" so to speak in the position. The hooks are of secondary importance. That's why you see guys get finished and/or controlled from all different variations of back control. Some guys prefer hooks, some guys prefer body triangle, some guys prefer grapevine, etc... but all good back attackers have that aforementioned connection mastered.
If one is struggling with this technique, one is likely missing the proper connection. Address that, and he falls in your lap.
Very good points Brandon, love how you still mention and use Rickson's lesson's! Connection and Invisible are always very important (often overlooked) details!
Damn Y'all just need to calm down. The man just had a point, he put a video of him beating a blackbelt which could come off "cocky", Idk about you guys but man we've been trying to string muhfuckas up by the toes lately. I don't feel like that's right, fucking with interlopers is fine and people trying to detract from the system, but goddamn chris is a nice guy. Chauncey is also a nice guy. Lets all just be nice guys and move on. We can all agree to disagree guys. Stay sexy!
I havent met chauncey in person or eric but theyve always seemed like nice dudes on the forum, chris on the other hand opened up his house to me and let me train at his gym where he helped improve my game immensely, and what he has done for 10th planet in england with mick and the others at birmingham is awesome. i thought we were all jiu jitsu warriors and not keyboard warriors, lets relax and remember that were all one big family.
and who the hell cares about belts anyway? anthony pettis vs benson "black belt" henderson. a belt only covers a couple inches of your arse and holds your pants up. im pretty sure no one understands what the others have gone through so why throw your egos around so much.
personally i think the technique is cool but it doesnt suit my game atm,
and lastly lots of techniques will work if you put enough work into them.
Thats nasty, trying tonight
I hear Eric and Chauncey are both spies for Royler. :) When lacking any non verbal ques to display a joke when in doubt enter a smilie face lol.
soneca teaches this to counter the single leg....this isn't a new tech......and it is very legit
HAHAHA. I was playing with you Fraser I don't have bad feelings towards you or Chris. Just making a joke. Glad you played along. I apologize if I came across as rude. I was only joking and trying to get you worked up but you played it off well.
