Any time you're bored in your jiu jitsu development is a bad sign bro. If you train in any 10P4L affiliate you wouldn't have time to be bored!
Go train at Leonards school for a week. Trust me, he will squeeze the boredom out of you. :)
Gotta be a brown belt to make a technique vid here... but, Master YouTube is the reining champ of wild, fun, cool moves!!
With the said, and I mean all due respect, but... There's a lot of subs/moves that are "cool" that might ruin your game.. I dunno if I would choose what technique to train by how cool it looks.. That's how we end up with these "crazes" in jiujitsu. Currently we are still in the berimbolo craze...sigh.
Well... I live in Korea so it's impossible to train at at Leonards school. Plus, I need some change in my game that's all.
I'm not looking for crazy, fancy move to submit my opponent. I'm just trying to catch up with recent flow of Jiu-Jitsu.
I don't know. I've been obsessed with making telles's Octopus guard work with the lockdown for me. Purely because it is called the octopus guard. A solid 6 months of getting smashed. It took me a couple months just to find a semi consistent way to get there, and I am still trying to figure things out to do with it. It pretty much killed my half guard for awhile because that is all I was going for. Now my half is just slightly injured, but getting better.
You should have fun with your jiu jitsu, otherwise whats the point. Some people have fun hitting RNC's on everyone and some people want some flash. To each his own.
you tube is the answer though for fancy stuff that looks really cool. Practicality is hit or miss.
Leonard's 10th planet is in South Korea bro. Seoul I think..
Leonard's gym is more so in the southern outskirts of Seoul; think Los Angeles to Burbank.
You don't "catch up" with current Jiu Jitsu you discover your game through trial and error. Some submissions work well for others. I want hit Gogoplata's, DLR/Berimbolo and Kimura's but for some reason they just don't click, but I do have a decent triangle, RNC and guillotine. I also love foot locks, especially toe holds. These are submissions I have had success with and find news way to hit them and adapt them. Do I ignore kimuras, birimbolos and gogo's, no way, I hope to have a fucking Miyao like spiral guard one day. The minute you start discarding moves because you are bored of them you are giving up all the reps you put into that move and risk it not becoming something you slay people with. Look at Roger Gracie, took people down, passed their guard, obtained mount, collar choke from the mount. BOOM, 10x Mundial Champion and he used basic shit. Take what you got and make it your own. Find a way to make it fun, beautiful and yours.
Find your weakest sub/area and make it your best

aside from this, for shits and giggles i will one day have perfected the flying sorcerer. its pure gold im sure.....
dude, i think every submission can be cool. the fact that i dont think anyone here knows what kind of game you play, makes it kind of hard to suggest cool moves.
and remember that subs are only a part of the game. i dont try and work on one position or one submission very often anymore, i work on flows and paths, and in doing so practice position submission and transition all in one movement. think the warm up series but for everything. when you have 5 answers for every counter they do and you go into faster than flash lightning then thats what i think is cool
for me the truck is the perfect balance between highly effective jiu jitsu and still feeling like I am pulling off a magic trick with my body. The entries from the truck are so fun, whether you are hitting it when your opponent turtles up or from side control, to me it feels like surfing or something. If you need to play it safe you can use the truck as a back take or before you go to the back you can hit the calf slicer (or a whole series of moves I haven't gotten into yet b/c the effectiveness of the calf-slicer or back take). It's all on mts or the mastering the twister dvd or a lot of it is free on youtube.

Check out the no GI ezekiel choke on Ryan halls arn triangle DVD. It's like an inverted arm triangle. I've been having a field day with it the past few months.

Mastered and use the endless supply of techniques on MTS??
Depends on what you like. This is an art do what you like. If looking cool is your thing than follow it. I train hard in class and play conservative at times but at tournaments Im there to have fun so I look to do something flashy and fun to talk about after. My new move is the barataplata. I like it as an option because I needed to have more attacks from guard. I hut both my knees so all my rubber guard attacks and triangle attacks are gone. In gi I have started playing spiral just to mess with my friends but I'm starting to like it.
come down here bro
Always welcome any 10th planet jj members
metal!!!!!
Loving the reverse spider web right now. But I play a kimura heavy game so it falls in line with what I already do.
I have messed with reverse spider web alot.. And I do like it. Very good kimura finishing position. But I prefer to do the back takes and sweeps associated with other "kimura" moves. David Avalon's (yes I know who he is and where he's from and how corrupt all this shit is..but) kimura game and style is what I use. I prefer to sweep or take the back on my kimura grip.. Not pull guard. I feel like it goes against the rule of position before submission if I don't maintain top and/or improve position. Although the reverse spider web is a solid position, I feel like its more efficient to funnel into more dominant positions with more standard options..
Personal preference only. Nathan and I have discussed this in length and I do totally support the reverse spider web position.. It's just not for me.. ;)
