Has anyone developed a 10th planet style for the gi?
I remember reading a while back on the forums before I joined and was able to discuss (however it may have been a speculative thought) that some people were interested or thinking about adapting a gi style of 10PJJ. I was wondering if there was anything behind this or if anyone has worked on trying to make gi setups to the 10P system? I know it can be played in the gi just like you would play no-gi, but sometimes it can be harder to capitalize on small holes or play the clinch game with someone who forces you to deal with their gi grips first.
I was wondering if anyone would think it would be a good idea to actually venture into trying to make some gi-style 10PJJ. I like both styles (no-gi better in most cases) and I think it would be cool and more beneficial to have more ways to play 10P in traditional schools that usually cater to tradition or gi jiu-jitsu.
For example, last night I used a gi grip to set up my rubber guard and ultimately a submission pathway. I used a right overhook on the left arm of my opponent and fed my hand into his collar across his neck to break him down and keep him broke down. The gi grip also lets me use grip leverage to keep my overhook tight. Then I shot my right leg up and pulled rubber guard from here and the gi grip/overhook combo substituted for hugging the knee like a free New York right off the bat if that makes sense. I know a lot of guys are strict no-gi warriors here so sorry if that's hard to imagine, that's why I'm trying to be descriptive. Once I was ready I released the gi grip, but kept my knee snug and wrapped around my knee with my relinquished grip to transition to the double bagger to a kung fu move to a kimura.
Let me know if you know of a gi version of 10th planet already in the works or if it still needs a few more people interested in that before it is an actual consideration. I would be interested in trying to help pioneer this development if it wasn't offensive to anyone.
I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to push the gi, I am loyal to my instructor and our affiliation and we train mostly gi, however 10PJJ was my inspiration to start jiu-jitsu in the first place and influences my skill set greater than any variation or other art I've studied. I think this would not only help people in a similar situation to me (there's always a couple of guys at any traditional school interested in 10P usually), but it would also help 10P spread into the gi and possibly expand the system more. That's my opinion, what is everyone's thoughts/feelings on this?
Oh and if anyone was really interested and want to see a video of the basic pathway I described 3 paragraphs above, I could possibly make one by tonight and show how a gi could potentially become a new branch of straight up 10P kung fu! I haven't put too much thought into this idea or different traditional paths to blend in yet, but I will work on it a lot more if it would contributes to the system :)
