Saturday Night Ride
Two of the guys I regularly grapple with are former wrestlers who like doing the "Saturday Night Ride". They use it more of a stalling tactic, and a way to wear you out by using their weight. It's a pain in the ass to kick my legs out of the hooks. What is the most efficient and best way you guys deal with this move?
Thanks.

what is it? picture? video?
-
Well, it's basically a high school wrestling move.
here..he does it at :49 seconds http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dlm89KFh6o

ah yeah i think most 10th planet guys call that "skydiving" in mount.
im pretty sure that i deal with it by using one of me feet to kick out a hook on the opposite leg and use the free leg to work from quarter guard.. its not easy, but face it, its a shit position to be in and at least theyre not working for submissions.
-
Gotta watch for that ezekiel though.
Yeah, that's basically what I try to do. There's gotta be something to do to reverse it or turn it into a submission.
-
not really, its meant to be utilized as an extremely stable position where you cant be rolled, and you cant really do anything to someone mounted on you... besides trying to get a cross choke from the bottom... but i wouldnt recommend that. you can also try to straighten out your legs and get the crook of your knees to the ground.
-
No, I mean the guy doing the ride from the top could do an easy ezekiel.

unless your protecting your neck with your arms...

grapevine mount is another name that is used. i'm going to try to figure out to transition to a position of advantage from this or at least put the guy on top in some discomfort at least.

In GJJ we call that the superhooks, except we dont grapevine the legs. Our strategy is actually to hold that untill the opponent is demoralized or help comes. The strategy I'm familiar with is if they grapevine like those guys did, extend your legs straight out to put pressure on their knees, can even get a tap.

Just limp leg one side out and upa to the side where the legs are still tied up not garanteed a sweep but it moves his bas around enough for you to get your shit back together.
-
If you start from a grapevine for all of your mount defense drills, you'll develop a feel for it pretty fast and will be more able to limp leg out faster. Once you limp leg, there is a moment where all of their weight is on your hip, I usually try to hip bump my legs out to butterfly but then I spazz and throw the leg knot up for a high outside ankle lock.

the only way you can transition into anything dangerous from any sort of full mount is by going to half guard butterfly guard first. or you can try to shoot your legs in front of their body.. but that wouldnt work in this situation

My teacher always told me when someone mounts you keep your legs flat so they can't grapevine them until you are ready to escape.

Good tip.. I guess i have the bad habit putting both of my knees up when I get mounted.
