Reverse Try-angles: The shit? Or Shitty?

So for a good while I've been trying to finish the reverse triangle with no success. (One where they defend the regular triangle by wrapping their arm around your leg, kinda omoplata style, and you latch the other way.. Reverse triangle). Maybe its called inverted triangle or something?

My question is: how the hell do you choke someone with it? I've tried every angle of pressure I know is possible in that thing.. No luck so far. Am I making mistakes or is it a low percentage move? Should I just go to the omoplata?

My first coach showed me that as the "Bolt Lock." The trick is to get a really, really nice angle, just as you would if you had short legs and were trying to triangle someone (just in the opposite way, obviously), and then wrap one arm around the head and the other arm around the leg going under their arm, s grip, and squeeze.

Hopefully that description made sense.

It's more a neck crank than a choke. I've gotten 1 or two taps with it but I'm not good at getting the angle needed to finish.

I could be wrong, but that's my experience :)

I we just discussed this in the 10WO Instructor chate the other day, I wish I could just find my post and cut/paste it. Yes it's legit, yes you can choke them. I'll just give and abridged version. Lets say you are doing a righty wrong side triangle with their left arm in (instead of their right arm). Angle is everything, get as close to 90 degress as possible. Then Clamp their head and your knee (left arm is between your left leg and the right side of their heard, your right arm is over your knee gable gripping behind their head. Now stretch your arms, don't pull them, and push your right hammy into the left side of their neck will leg curling then stomping your feet to the floor.

When I first injured my hip I was devistated when I realized I could no longer do a regular lefty triangle as it put way to much pressure in it and my knee. So I revisited the wrong side triangle I had learned from at a Judo camp years before. All my triangles are righty now. Either regular righty or wrong side righty. They nice part for me is that I play weak side Rubber Guard, and with the righty wrong side triangle it gives me the kimura, inverted straight or I can clear the head, kungfu to gogo ro straight to Jiu Claw off of it.

1) Don't ever call it a B.O.L.T. lock ever again, Make sure you let Brandon and Tyler know that!
2) It is most deffianltly a choke if doing it correctly, but for sure you can get a neck crank from it as well.

feed fist to open artery, ala Gag reflex, pull head with free hand.

Try a gag reflex, I like to pop my hips up and kimura that arm then drag it across.

Yes if your techniques sucks and you don't want to try and get better at it, then try the gag reflex ;)

You can finish it with a gag reflex also. Assuming it is their left arm that is trapped, bridge your hips away and place your left fist into the side of their neck. Lock your arm straight and curl your legs toward your chest.

the choke works great for me,I hit it atleast once a day when rolling.

Badass triangle! I love this move, Cade Nelson showed it to me and man he's a killer with it. Estima is the man with this move also and has adcc wins with it.

Although this is not the triangle I was referring to. :)

I 100% agree the gag reflex works, and in competition I would stick my fist all the way through your neck like I'm punching a politician. but I have an uneasy feeling with it since we nearly lost a beloved nibiru warrior to a gag reflex gone wrong years back. I love the move, but I prefer to not do it in class. It's just me.

My hip wont allow me to do a lefty triangle, all my triangles are righty. If this is the case and thats what ____ is talking about
I disagree with him about it being unsound, only if he is trying to finish it the same way as a regular triangle.
The angle and the HOW are just different. If u are doing it the way I described above you nees to gable around your knee and your opponents
head. Make sure you are close to 90° to them, push with your right hammy into their head as you straighten your arms,
then push your feet to the ground. There are also a few options with their arm.
You can kimura it, wrist lock, invereted straight on pinching it on your shoukder/neck or my favorite
just clear the head and kung fu to jiu claw. These types of wrong side triangles are common
in judo when attacking the turtle position they just seem unorthodox at first,
you just have to change your mind set on how to finish them as its not the same.

Edited because I didn't realize I had left an instructors name in there. Even though I'm sure everyone would be cool with it, that wasn't my place, sorry :)

I can finish this type of triangle and actually I will test it before I switch to a standard triangle. The way I finish it is, Ill hug around both knees and gradually increase my squeeze. 0%-20%-30% and so on.

theres the transition to omoplata here so i'll always go there these days but with the teepee i find what makes it tighter for me atleast is turning the knees in slightly so its your knee caps digging into the neck. in saying this i prefer it as a no arm in triangle attack and ill hook one or both of their arms when i bring my arms behind my legs. it works either way. i think arm in has more control but arm out has both legs getting a tighter squeeze.

and thanks to coach zog for the tips, i will give that a try and try get it into my game.

I transition from triangle to Teepee to OLT triangle and back again as required. You can get a tap from all three.
