Most competitors (in any sport) would disagree. That's why they all have sports specific training.
Everybody who has rolled with Marcelo have all mentioned his freakish strength. Some are blessed more than others.
But I'm not saying he's wrong.
Did someone say Marcelo? I've been waiting for an excuse to post this photo:

I just assume everything Marcelo says is right. However, I would like to add the one caveat that I feel like pushing yourself to roll that hard as a white belt with another white belt raises the risk of unnecessary injury stemming from not knowing enough technique and resorting to spazzing.
On the slow one he started in closed guard, fast was open. One is naturally faster. Granted he opened almost immediately, but yeah, I see the the need to train at high intensity with urgency to accomplish whatever your goal may be. It gives you those mongoose reflexes. I l
I love mongooses.
I agree to a point, but there are always going to be ways to improve your game. Sport specific training is very advantageous when used properly for sure! But Marcelo is Marcelo, and advice from a legend should be taken in and assimilated :)
Awesome pic Ric!
If I could roll most everyday I would agree totally. But since there are days in between where I don't get to. The extra exercise is the next best thing. Also if you just have a small frame or are one of those guys that just have a hard time putting on muscle and strength I would as well. Marcelo obviously has the body type that strengthens easily.
