Will all of mma eventually be dominated by 1 specific style?

Jiujitsu with Royce in the beginning.. Then after everyone knew defense and sprawls all the strikers and wrestlers dominated.

With 10th planet I think jiujitsu is about to make a comback. It's forcing the fight back into our world by allowing us to at absolute worst case scenario, pull guard and still be completely safe.

So my question. Will the chain ever end? Will we ever as humans perfect martials arts into one style that's the best in every way? Have we done it already?
Is it likely every successful fighter in 50 years have the exact same style?

Styles make match ups. With the rise of MMA schools that focus specifically on MMA based training more guys like Rory McDonald, jack of all trades but master of none, we are going to be coming around with no specific specialty but at the same time, the money will attract more Olympic caliber athletes like Daniel Cormier, Rick Hawn and Ronda Rousey. There will always be specialists that adapt their styles to certain situations and high level 10th Planet will force these fighter to either learn it or at least learn to defend it. Example would be Fabricio Comes vs Jim Miller; on paper Fabricio Comes is a 4th Degree Black Belt in BJJ under Royler Gracie. Jim Miller is a BJJ black belt and former division I wrestler but still the submission advantage should have gone to Comes. Miller pulled a sloppy Mission Control, shoulder trapped Comes and arm barred him. Comes probably didn't anticipate the set up and know how to defend it. I guarantee fighters will be looking defend that in the future now.

No. IMO there is no ultimate combat martial art. When BJJ came around, it made itself look like the ultimate martial art. All it did was expose a wide open hole in the world wide fight game. But now guys have plugged that hole in order to excel at what they prefer. Wrestlers developed sub defense and striking. Strikers developed sub defense and sprawls. BJJ seems to be the only art that hasn't evolved to deal with modern MMA rules. BJJ guys who have developed good striking stick to striking more than grappling (Aldo/Barao). 10th planet is looking to evolve BJJ for MMA, but even at that point, it won't be the end all of martial art styles.

In the end, it's not so much about the art as much as it is about the practitioner. It's about how well the practitioner can put together their pieces into a style that works for them. Aldo is a BJJ black belt who trains gi, but he's put together a style that suits his preference to strike. Same with Anderson.

I wouldn't say there's ever going to be an ultimate martial art. Buuuuut, I do believe there is an ultimate martial art philosophy. Jeet Kun Do. Basically, use whatever works. That's why I love 10th planet.

Probably not, while it is possible, most fighters have moved away from being great at one style to being average (or less than) at everything. Its unfortunate, because in a way its bringing the skill level in MMA down. Compared to Pro Kickboxing/Boxing the striking in MMA is EMBARRASINGLY BAD for the most part. Same with JiuJitsu, the JiuJitsu in MMA (ESPECIALLY THE UFC) is pretty bad.

There are a few people who are great at one thing (Ronda Rousey being a prime example), but most people are going the way of being average at everything.

If one style will ever be dominant, it would probably be wrestling if anything... Either that or a striking art.. If we are talking about the UFC, JiuJitsu's chances go down even more..

The problem is you need an educated audience to enjoy grappling. You only need alcohol to enjoy striking. Lol. Stupid rules and points system also cater to the striker. The striking and wrestling will stay more prevelant because it sells better... Unfortunate but true.

No as the saying goes styles make matches, but many thing affect styles e.g physical attributes, personal preference etc. you'll always find people will even if they're well rounded gravitate to one or the other more (striking compared to grappling).

Jiu Jitsu will be the ultimate style again. Everyone will become decent at everything like they are now but soon they will specialize again in one art. Watch Chris Holdsworth lay the Jiu Jitsu smack down on everyone and he is still decent at striking and wrestling.

The people who say MMA striking is shocking compared to pro kickboxing or boxing are as bad as the pure BJJ guys who criticize the ground game in MMA. Walk the walk or don't talk the talk. The sport is completely different, so is the range and tactics.

just the evolution of martial arts, its a game with counters to counters of the counters etc. as david said, jiu jitsu pointed out a big hole in martial arts, then wrestlers pointed out a hole in jiu jitsu, now i think judo will start coming through showing holes in wrestling, and then muay thai showing holes in judo, and then wrestling showing holes in muay thai and then kick boxing showing holes in wrestling etc.

i guess you could say that eventually mma will be one style that everyone has, but honestly that style will be sooooo multifacted that its seen as many. mma is a macro group of martial arts, an umbrella term.

what i hope is that eventually this whole jack all of trades and master of none, changes to master of all trades. and then we will finally be prepared for the saiyans when they come to attack us. we should collect the dragon balls before they get here. :D

Right, and a style like that cannot be mastered. It seems to me that even the broadest base of 10th planet techniques is going to be difficult to master because new stuff is getting developed all the time. If you apply that to the striking world and the clinch world, mastering all that is impossible. So how do you develop a game that is as bulletproof as you can make it, drawing from every discipline and achieving the right level of mastery (considering learning curves)?

That's why I love MMA. :D

Consider what we learned from the rise and fall of Dan Hardy and G Sots.

It seems to this humble white belt that one of these guys is exciting because he's a striker who has figured out how to use 10pjj to defeat wrestlers and one of these is a 10pjj friendly BJJ black belt who didn't have the striking skills or takedown skills to compete with the likes of Dennis Siver, Ross Pearson and even Rafael Dos Anjos.

Those guys were great! But the bar is pretty high!

That said, I'm interested in the idea of Combat Jiu Jitsu because it *seems* to be suggesting a new art that encompasses grappling, ground and pound and takedowns. If you get great at all that and add some striking, you'd be fearsome, neh?
