Just wanted to see what the average is. At our gym we do five minute rounds then switch. I'm trying to get ten rounds in a night. I never used to count, but ten sounded like a decent amount of rolls. Turns out I was only getting like 6 or 7 in a night. So, how does it work at your gym and what's your average time rolling?
Depends on the night. Tues and Thur we roll hard from 8-10pm, so if you stay the whole time you get a solid 2 hours worth.
Mon and Wed we roll for an hour during the day class and then I usually get a couple of light rounds in those the evenings.
Saturday we go from 1-4pm.

Usually, four rolls a class three days a week. Not a lot actually compared to you guys!
I know everyone has set times, but do you actually roll the whole time? I'm trying to find the blunt truth here. Like how much do you roll a night without breaks, no stopping?
I train 6 mornings and 3 evenings a week. Mornings are more drilling than rolling, but I still get 4 or 5 rounds in, 5 min each. In the evening we usually do 5-6 rounds of 8 minutes each, unless we training for some sort of sub only torney, than we do 10-15 min rounds, depending. Sometimes we will do short, 3 min rounds, but we won't take any breaks in between, switch partners quick and keep rolling, for an hour straight. We do more drilling than rolling thou, about 60/40 ratio, I would say.
open roll, 45 minutes, hate those dam timers, they condition your brain and body to stop at x min. If you have been rolling with one person for a while and see somebody sitting just tap and go to the next. Most of the time roll the entire 45 min with no more than a few 30 sec breaks to switch partners.
during the day class and on tue and thur nights, we don't break between rounds at all. just move on to the next guy. if you need to break, then do it; your choice. but if i see a blue belt or higher catching his breath while everyone else is rolling, he's gonna get the biz the next round.Quote:

Are you training at Maverick on Mon and Wed during the day and twice on Friday? Because we don't even have Friday classes, and I know you aren't there during our day classes on Mon and Wed. Those would be plenty of work for you for sure.Quote:

Yep Mon-wen-fri at maverick during the day in the gi. Mon-wen night at 10p and tue and thursdays when I can make it. I forgot about our day classes. That would probably be better for me since I know Id get some good rolling in.Quote:

You'll have guys/gals that roll twice a day or 3x a day, but you gotta have money for that type of effort. More training equates to more food intake, and more wear and tear on the body. I savor grappling like fine wine, while others may want to do shots to the head, everyday. There's a trade-off in either case.

5 minute rounds, switching partners every round, with a five minute break every three rounds. Typically we skip the breaks once a week on "cardio" rolling night, but technique really suffers when we roll for that long without any breaks.
Lol. I must be doing shots to the head then. I roll aggressive and hard..that's why these ten 5s are kinda hard. Been trying to take organic protein after rolling to help as well. Yea, 25 is the average it seems, like with no stopping. We have a lot of new guys so after 4 or so rolls they're out. Plus, i try to be somewhat nice to them. I have to ask the OGs to help me get the ten. They're ok with beating up and getting beat up for two or three rounds in a row.Quote:

I know personally, when I have not an ounce of energy left to give in a competitive situation, that's when I rely on drills and technique the absolute most. It's really the only option at the time given my physical state. Lately, the "Mobile Hotbox" has been running with no timers. We also have very limited mat space so generally have a session with 3 hardcore people and just rotate. One person get's to roll the other 2 (back to back of course, not at the same time obviously) until tap or unescapable dominate position is established and then rest while the cycle continues. I've had more intense training sessions in the past but it's working well with the mat situations at peoples houses and what not. Hell, getting ready for mma fights a couple years ago I would do 5 or 6 3minute rounds of mma sparring with monsters and then transition into jiu jitsu class with a fresh group of people for the most part looking for their best opportunity to tap me. Those jiu jitsu classes would really show you exactly where your technique was because that would be all you had to offer opponents.
Including live drills, we roll at least 50 mins to an hour 10 mins sometimes of 8 min rounds with 1 x min rest periods on average.
