How Often Do You Train, 10th Planeteers?

This question is done to death on virtually every other even remotely fitness or martial arts related forum, so why not start it here, too?

The question: How often do you train BJJ? How many sessions per week, and how long per session?


As for me, between school, work, and new job hunting, I've only been able to go 2x weekly (2 hrs each) for a total of 4 hours per week since starting BJJ around two months ago. I'd definitely like to get this up to 4x weekly (8 hrs/wk) or at least a minimum of 3x (6 hrs/wk) per week once my schedule permits in order to boost my progress.

So let's find out. How frequently does 10th Planet train?

I've been training for about as long as you and have similar constraints (job, wife, kids). M: 2 hours, W: 1 hour, Friday or Saturday: 1 hour. Total: 4 hours. Once I get my second stripe, I'm hoping to go to M, W S 2 hours each for a total of six hours. :D

But 4 of that is in the gi. So Renato would be pleased.

Monday- 3.5 Hrs
Wednesday- 2 Hrs
Thursday- 3.5 Hrs
Friday Open Mat- 2 Hours
Saturday- 3 Hours

I average about 14 Hours a week on the mats, as of late I've been able to go on tuesdays more which has allowed me to bump up to an additional 2 hours. I'd say a safe bet is that I'm in the 12-18 hours a week range.

6 mornings and 3 evenings. 18 hours between teaching and training. so I would say 12 of pure training a week.

I typically train BJJ for two hours on Mon, Wed and Fri.
I tend to skip Saturdays classes because it is my "Sleep in day" but I think I might try to start going then too. I used to go out and get hammered every friday night like a rock star, but these days I am losing interest in drinking as much as I used to.

I lift weights on Tues, Thurs and either Sat or Sun, depending on other committments. So I "train" 6 days a week. Plus I throw in cardio (Jogging mostly) wherever I can on whatever day.

I work a minimum of 40 hours a week (sometimes 60 hrs), I have a wife, two kids, two vehicles, two dogs, two cats, two jobs and a band.
(My other job is a Detoxing and Nutrient/Vitamin/Mineral replenishment program, which I work on in my "spare times", lol)

But I want to try to make it to Saturday classes and I want to start competing more because I have decided I want to try to push myself and get ranked to blue this year, but I know I have a ways to go yet.

Generally its 10-12 hours a week I would get in....Typically I rest Saturdays but might switch it up and start training legs in gym on a different day (instead of Sunday) so I get 12 hours a week (Monday to Saturday)

I'm blessed to be able to have that much time to train, work almost full time, go to school full time, coach hockey, and somewhere in there sleep. :)

Josh Passini is easily on the Mat for 20 hours a week minimum. As well as those animals in Vista, I don't thin Ryan, Geo, or Boogie ever get off those damn mats. lol Those dudes should be your hero's. :)

Tuesday 3 hours
Wednesday 3 hours

Sunday 2 hours in the morning plus afternoon open mat

Tuesday night and Sunday morning are now gi because I was invited to compete in a submission only absolute, all levels tournament in July. Unfortunately it's in the gi but Pete the Greek is letting me come train at his school for some gi specific work.

I also work 10 hour days and fortunately finished school in December so that allows me more time on the mats now on Monday and Thursdays :-)

I train 4 nights a week..If we are including class and rolling time, that puts me at 8 hours. Sometimes I get some additional time on the weekends (weekend rolling, seminars, tournaments, training camps, etc.)

5-6 sessions, 10-12 hours a week. BOOM!

Monday to Saturday we train 10th Planet JJ. Sunday we go to the local open mat for rolls with other schools.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Even if I'm injured I make these classes and we are usually taught month by month in the advanced classes. Then in the basics could be anything.

Im on the mats about 20 hours a week. Live jiu jitsu at the club on Friday and Sat nights while running the security team. John and I also do strongman training a few nights a week around 1:00am. Fuck Sleep, Sleep is for bitches!

mon.-1 hour if i can make it
tues. and thurs.-2 hours each night
wed-1.5 hours if i'm not lazy (sadly i usually am)
sat-1.5 hours

do muay thai 5 hours a week, and i'm trying to do conditioning 4 hours a week.

An hour monday and two hours wednesday is all I get. Once in a while can get a couple more hours in on a saturday morning, but that depends on our host gym's schedule or if I can travel.

I make it a point to attend all the Harvard club practices, so that's Sun Tues and Thurs for an avg of 1.5-2 hrs. Sometimes on Sun I'll go by Redline for another 1.5-2 hrs, on Fridays I stop by a Sambo school (about 2-2.5 hrs) and then Mon and Wed at least one of the two days I'll get in either TKD or some more Sambo for about 1.5 hrs-2 hrs (always getting rolling at both). So total it comes out to about 5 days a week for 10-15 hours give or take?

3-4 times a week most weeks :)

One of the funniest things I've read! You can sleep when your dead!

3-4 days a week, 2.5-3.5 hours each session. That includes my MMA training as well.
