Gag reflex and the Knuckle/Fist Choke are dick moves and I love them.
Im gonna start looking for it from everywhere now. Its like I have had this Transformer toy for a long time that turns into a vehicle. Now I find out that it turns into a vehicle, dinosaur, airplane, and splits apart to form two transformer guys.
Touché, Mr Marshall.
I always figured Einstein prefers no gag reflex...
I'm new to 10th Planet, and I didn't even know the Gag Reflex existed until this thread pop up. So, forgive the question: can we use the move in competition?
Depends on the competition rules. My understanding is that you can't Rape Choke. Might be wrong.
What do you mean by not coursing your fingers?

So, as long as you're not closing your hand you can rape choke? Hmmmmmmmm
yeah, that what the rape choke is, basically posting your open hand on the throat but you cant squeeze.
Got it last night. It's a great addition to the RG, takes a lot of practicing, many levels to it's mastery
This is quite possibly my favorite post ever.
The gag reflex isn't so different from a very common fist choke from mount where you just ram a first into a person's throat from the side and bring the opposite forearm under the neck to support the "choking" arm. I think it's probably the first thing I learned a while back when I started in gi, and the guy held his own sleeve to secure the grip/submission.
It's a dick move but it's still technically a blood choke because you are aiming for the carotid artery. The beauty of the gag reflex is that, in conjunction with a submission like the triangle and a stubborn opponent, it's an additional arsenal you can use to finish the fight.
Literally used this last night, my opponent responded the exact way Einstein said he would and I transitioned like he said to do at the right time and TAP! I was like yeah dude I learned that on Saturday.... haha
and the path from lockdown, was hitting it over n over. loved the workshop, definitely got to apply everything quickly
I like hitting it from the n/s kimura if they are defending the armlock with a kung-fu death grip.
I didn't learn this from Einstein, but he opened my mind enough to consider this: in bottom half, against a large opponent who has head and arm, who's trying to smother me, I wrap my overhooking arm around the back of their head and work my under hook to a spot capable of gagging them and then squeeze the shit out of them. I haven't perfected the finish, but it's turned into a great way to force them to move off me enough to get to pdu.
I'm assuming the top person has won the underhook battle and has the underhook on the trapped-leg-side in this scenario, right? How exactly are you getting your underhook into a position to gag them, especially if they have some good cross-face action going? Are you going for the no-gi ezekiel before/ instead of jaws/claws of life or omaha whip? Not meaning to put you on blast, just curious.
The highest percentage submission in my game right now is what I call a Punch Choke. It's sort of a hybrid between the Gag Reflex and an Ezekiel Choke. If I roll with a new guy, I get it almost every time. I do it from Mount, Side or Top Half. But it is most successful from top half.
I have success with the Gag Reflex from Crackhead Control, but only to get them to open up and give me the Zombie. I haven't gotten a submission with it before, but I also haven't taken the time to really investigate it fully, either.
I find the most success with the Gag Reflex when I have a triangle that I'm struggling to lock up. Works almost every time from there for me.
Well yes you can definitely do an upside down punch choke with double over hooks. I've just been getting it however I can; slight jaws of life action, slight whip down angle, once I even just jammed my over hook fist into the dudes throat. Probably not going to be a very high percentage finish, but going up against the monsters I have to train with (not good enough with the whip to overcome their weight and strength), I've been more successful with getting to pdu then dog fight.
His punch choke is definitely no joke. Completely shut down my lockdown game while I was there.
Please show us a Punch choke Mr Brandon Mccaghren sir, pleeeeeassssseeee!
