Blew out my knee tonight during roll

Kinda baffled on what the hell happened, everytime I start thinking about it I just keep flipping out. I blew my other knee as a freshman in high school as well which terrifies me even more because I know what's coming and how much time I'm out, I'm ventingr because the 2 people I've txt and reached out to hasn't replied and I just need to talk and let it out. It was a light roll with a 4 strip blue, light roll because I have a torn labrum already in my left shoulder and am going in for surgery may 13th to get it repaired so I'm already in fucks ville, but anyways light roll I lay back he goes to pass my guard, I imeediatly go, Lockdown, electric hooks and went to whip up, he posted out stopping the transition but in doing so I popped his leg over and am now in stoner control on bottom, there was a little battle and managed to roll up and chilled for a second he almost clear his leg back over, after like 5 seconds I went for the vapor roll, he stopped me mid roll so I was stuck on my left side, I whipped the leg up from there and began the crank, he managed to reach up once and knock my hands off and I recovered the crank, I began to pull (and for the life of me and him we don't really know what happened next but this is what I can peice) so I began to crank he grabbed my foot that I had the crank applied to as to relieve the pressure, he then tried to straighten his leg and twisted his body in a whipping type action to the right and my knee goes POP and 3 SNAP SNAP SNAPS! I flipped out shit I'm still fucking flipping out, it was a immediate flash back to my other knee, I just keep thinking I fuuuccckkkiiiinnnbggggggg bball eeww my kneeee!!!!! I don't even know how it happened, i didn't think I was in danger at all really I just don't fucking know man....

Quick healing bro. Injuries happen, sadly some are worse than others heal up and get back on the mats!

That sucks, dude. Knee injuries scare me.

Sounds like y'all were rolling pretty hard. Stuff like that happens.

It was light until I grabbed the vaporizer and he started flipping out tryin to get out and that's when it got turned up.
The pain is so much worse then lasts night right now, I can't bend it or put weight, my original pain killer isn't working to good just keeping my mind off it mostly but I'm lost as to how it happened, I keep replaying it over and over and over

I feel your pain. Almost the same thing happened to me six months ago.

Just rolling. I go Samurai to Truck. I'm there all the time, I feel comfortable and dominant. Training partner's twisting to try and escape, grabbing my foot. Then three loud pops. I didn't even feel it. For a couple of seconds I thought it was him, and then I started getting light-headed and the swelling began. A part of me wonders if the problem was that the positioning of the lockdown was just slightly offset, as in, not quite as deep as it should have been.

MRI showed tears in the ACL, PCL, and postero-lateral corner. Three pops indeed. I was on crutches for a little over three weeks. I'd heard so many horror stories of other guys getting knee surgeries which turned into multiple knee surgeries that I decided to turn down the surgery option and heal my knee by myself. I went to five sessions of physical therapy before deciding it was a bullshit waste of money and quitting. The routine I was doing at home was a hundred times more beneficial.

First couple months was a mandatory 4-hours per day of home PT. My Jiu Jitsu consisted of thousands of mental reps. Also used the time to systematically organize my game on paper. Three months in, I was working position and pressuring on a homemade dummy. Now, after six months, I can run, jump, and squat just fine. I just got back into full lotus last week. I'm doing reps and drills with a partner as well as some light rolling. I just try to avoid the lockdown and other leg-vining positions that cause lateral stress on the knee. Sometimes the knee gets sore, so I just slow it down a bit. I'm hoping to really be back in action in another three months. I honestly feel that I will be much better than before, because the injury allowed me to slow down and reevaluate my game from the ground up.

Good luck with your knee. Just don't let it discourage you. Use it as an opportunity to patch your holes and advance.

Both of you guys had the same description: tangled legs, and your partner grabs your leg and twists in an attempt to escape.

I can't imagine that injuring me unless my partner was going balls to the wall.

That having been said, I've been injured several times doing things that shouldn't hurt me. I busted my rib one time shrimping during warm ups. For real.

Very important that you dont use the knee untill you know what it is. It can make it a lot worse! (:

Going Monday to cleveland clinic in Weston to get it checked out, have you guys heard of this really happening before, I thought I was in no danger, and boooom. I just don't know...

I haven't heard about it in your actual situation. But its when you are not aware things like that happend.. /: Because your muscles aren't ready for it..
I nearly blow out my knee because two guys did a takedown and fell into my knee. Again.. I was not aware for it to happen because i was focused on my own game. (:

Just promise me that you will FIGHT for that MRI scan! It took me 5 months from the injury happend untill they were thinking about an MRI! So insist on it! PLEASE! (:

I've actually been injured in a very similar way. It was 100% my fault. I kept forcing a calf crank from the truck when the angle was completely wrong with someone that was hip the the truck position. My pride got in the way of me abandoning the position and recovering. Kept pulling on the calf crank until i popped my own lcl. I would strongly suggest getting the inflammation down ASAP with RICE and some nsaid's or prescription anti-inflammitories. If you have insurance, get it looked at. Period. Handle the shit now and less permanent reprocussions.

As long as it wasn't ACL, it wont be too terrible of a recovery period. Attempt to do as much upper body and core exercises as possible as to not get too far behind. Also keep checking the site, watching mts, and anything else that may present itself. Injuries are part of the game, it all boils down to how you deal with them. Injury maintenance is key to a long term jiu jitsu career. I've come to realize this after having made a couple life long mistakes that will follow me forever.

I am in that issue right now...sucks!!! Over three weeks already and doesn't feel that much better.

As far as your knee, take some ibuprofen, ice it and get the swelling down. Keep it up and have positive thoughts. I thought I destroyed my knee, but turned out it was only a partial dislocation and it healed quick with a little PT.

Tell me about it. I never would have dreamed it could happen. I thought my knees were indestructible.

My first injury was actually a torn rotator cuff. I was the training dummy while drilling the pendulum sweep to armbar. So yeah, Kathrine's right. It's definitely when you least expect it. I've never been injured in a way that didn't seem completely ridiculous.

I have hurt myself just getting in and out of the truck; at work!

Torn my LCL and part of my calf muscle, might be able to heal on its own but that is a 4 months recovery
If it's not healed by then, they have to make a new ligament from my hamstring😁

I feel for you man. I've been nursing a knee injury for 3 weeks now. I was standing in my friends guard, he grabs my ankle, and I just slipped somehow and got my foot caught under me and it twisted the crap out of my knee. Couldn't hardly walk the day after, but the day after that, I got almost all function back. It's still not right though, and I can tell that I damaged my MCL. I just rolled for the first time since tonight, as there is a tourney next weekend I wanted to compete in, and I wasn't sure if my leg was up to it, and registration deadline is tonight. It went better than I feared, but not as good as I'd hoped. Definitely nowhere near able to go 100%, so I'm literally staring at the registration screen online right now, debating. I guess I'm gonna do the smart thing and pass, this time. Especially since I'm more likely to have guys attacking my legs at this tourney in the "pro" division. I'm actually a paramedic, with certs in orthopedics, but it's hard to apply the same treatment/advice to myself as I would somebody else. It's definitely frustrating.

Just a minor thread hijack: You can totally rehab your shoulder back up to near 100% mobility after a labrum repair. I had to get my left shoulder labrum repaired after a shoulder throw went awry in judo. Just be patient and diligent with your PT when you get to start it and you should do well. Thread hijack over.
