Are they the same or different ? Did Prog Rock evolve into Djent ? Is Djent even a genre or is it a guitar technique ? I don't know but this is some technical music.

I love prog-metal, and enjoy playing it for fun, and keeping the chops sharp, but rarely listen to this type just for pleasure. I prefer it coupled with something melodic, vocals or otherwise, like Protest the Hero, for example.
And "Djent" is technically a tone-shaping technique, that's become synonymous with a specific genre of prog-metal. Meshuggah created it.
Agree with what Jerry walker said....AaL and Sithu Aye are sick! Volumes' via album is what I think of when I think of djent though....if you like instrumental rock, check out Scale the Summit or Chon's newborn sun ep

I guess this would actually be called death metal but it's kind of djenty.

The best examples of djent I know of are meshuggah (obviously), tesseract, and The Ocean Collective
Gojira is pretty djenty sometimes too.
This may give you some ideas: http://www.metalsucks.net/2011/01/31...-and-improved/
It's a small survey done in the UK about djent bands. The number is the amount of people who voted the band as djent.
For prog-metal I would have to say Between the Buried and Me does it best.
jerry is right about djent. it is a tone shaping technique. there are a ton of bands that use it now and there has been a sub-genre of prog-metal created that people refer to as "djent". meshugga was one of the pioneers. periphery, tesseract, and fellsilent are all bands that helped to propogate the style. there seems to be an overwhelming amount of bands using this style nowadays. i dig it and it actually takes a good amount of talent to play, so more power to em. :)
I saw this and thought it was slightly humorous.

Paul Gilbert type of approach. I think it's cool. Lots of whole tone scales and augmented transitions in the fret boad. Dissonance and resolve to create ear twisting melody lines....good music in my opinion very sophisticated. Especially in 6/8 time.
It's especially fun in 15/16
Yes switching up the time signature keeps I fun and interesting. Modulation of the keys is cool too especially in vocal songs.
My students do not like when I play Animals as Leaders the entire time we roll. Good thing Im in charge:)
