What a story and brave to tell it . so thanks for that .
okay but the question is are you still a blackbelt ? Because you are unsure if the memory you have is blackbelt level true the trauma you have had.
And how can you get memory back so specilly functioning as a black belt .
i think you have to go train and roll as much as you can ......try blue belt and try to figur out what the mistake was they made that you've taped them .....do you know whati mean trying to see howls in someones games ....
for me the easyist way to finf out how far you are and training your brain .
i'll wish you the best dude and keep us posted ! Maby you can try a10 th planet school ...10th planet boulder . Try it
Pictures of you in your Black Belt? Receiving it, wearing it in class. Who was your instructor? Pictures of him and you?
I say put on a white belt and never speak of this black belt you received ever again.
wow...I can't possibly imagine what that would be like
thank you for sharing your story with us
I find myself agreeing with Brandon in going white belt. You climbed the mountain once, you can do it again
best wishes...

Here are some photos of me since I recovered.
Have you looked into the Onnit product, Shroomtech Sport? Or its principal ingredient shroomtech sport? It is extremely effective in increasing ATP production.
Not trying to be an ass, but you might want to also post some pics of you before you were injured, like the one of your teacher giving you your bb, maybe some competition footage...
Because this is getting wierd, you say you don't feel like a bb, then you post pics of you teaching in one, yet you got a wierd desease that has caused memory loss so you can't compete at a bb level...
That being said I read a few papers online, and man I feel bad for you. Apparently you can't get stressed, excited, smoke weed, just a really bad disease. I think you need a specialist, I don't know what anyone here could do to help you, other than be a sounding board...
I'm not calling you out here, but I think most people on this site take rank pretty seriously and the original suggestion from brandon was recieving it and instuctor and pics of him and you.
you provided ones of you wearing it in class, again not accusing yet, but anyone can do that, it would have been better if you had provided all the pics he ask for. Being selective looks a little shady.
But if you are a bb, then fuck it, you are. But if YOU have doubt, listen to brandon and put on a white belt.
but I did look up and read about your disease, and I can't tell you how sorry I am for you. You cant stress out, smoke weed, anything. I don't know what anyone here can do for you, you need a specialist, Ill say a prayer.
I am incredibly serious about rank, thus why I posted this looking for help. I haven't seen my instructor in at least 5 years. It's hard to be selective when you legitimately do not have the resources. If I have pictures with my instructor they would be back at my family's house. Muscle memory is still somewhat there, but I do not remember everything. Having long term memory loss doesn't mean I forgot everything that ever happened. Like I mentioned I have been back in full time training for almost 3 years, and I have a lot of working knowledge and ability, but I do not want to sandbag. That's the major issue. As far as taking rank seriously, I am asking for advice, if throwing on a white belt and going with it is the best route then I will gladly do it. I am really worried about getting in trouble for declaring myself at a lower level. Like be banned from competing under certain registration? Being stripped of all your wins to lie and say I'm another belt level? Honestly man, I don't blame you for your skepticism, I would be too. But I need some real help here.

“I started my training about nine years ago, just out of books. There aren’t any dojos in Craig so I just learned, and then my freshman year did the majority of tests for belt levels,” he said. “I just learned how to not be bullied by doing MMA.”
It’s impressive enough that he’s a self-taught MMA expert, but the belts he has achieved are even more so: a black belt and mastery in Muy Thai; a second-degree black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu; a black belt in Krav, Kendo and Ken Po; and belts for Judo and Capoeira. Each style is unique and represents martial arts from around the world.
This is you right? It says 9 years of study and lists five black belts, one a second degree in gjj, all self taught and no mention of overcomeing this disability. I'm calling bs my friend, I don't believe you have five bb and one a second degree in bjj. I will have 30 years in martial arts in march, I have a yodan in karate, coaching permission in chinese boxing and a blue belt in 10pjj. NO ONE gets five bb in 9 years, one being a second degree in gjj, no one!!
Thank you man, prayer is always welcomed.
You havn't seen your instructor in 5 yeard, the article is from nov 2013 says you are self taught and have been training for 9 years. So you are trying to tell me you got a second degree gjj black belt in 4 years? and taught yourself 4 other arts and got bb in those also? really? where did you compete, and when? who gave you a bb in any of the arts you claim? you are worried about sandbagging huh? you shouldn't be, your not a gjj bb.
That's right, I'm not a Gracie black or second degree black. Find the article from the Coloradoan of me doing an interview to clear my name of the one you just posted. Or the other 5 or 6 articles that were true. I'm not any of those. There is no belt system in Muay Thai (which I trained for 9 years in, and where that number came from). I took 2 Kempo classes (not Ken Po). Studied the art of Kendo for school. Took a few Capoiera classes with colleagues. Did Judo when I was a little kid before trying Jiu-Jitsu. Which I did read all sorts of books when I was living in Craig, but was not self-taught by any means. I tried out all sorts of martial arts when I recovered. The only ones I had taken previously were Judo when I was really young, BJJ and Muay Thai.
My certs said I had reached my black belt in BJJ, and when I found it, I had my first stipe as well.-you
I really would not do well up against another black-you
https://www.facebook.com/matt.hersch...3995582&type=1 you in a bjj black belt
I am incredibly serious about rank,-you
but I do not want to sandbag.-you
I am really worried about getting in trouble for declaring myself at a lower level. Like be banned from competing under certain registration?-you
Being stripped of all your wins to lie and say I'm another belt level? -you
so are you a black belt in bjj? or was that a lie?
who gave you a bb in bjj?
Why dont you just contact your instructor that promoted you?
Joe Rogan said it best.
"In life, we can all distort our perception of things in order to make ourselves more comfortable, in order to make ourselves accept where we are. And there’s a lot of people out there that are running around in life full of shit. You can’t be full of shit when you do jiu jitsu. When you do jiu jitsu, its impossible to be full of shit because reality comes at you in the purest form possible: A life or death struggle, using your determination, your focus, your techniques, your mind, and your training, over and over and over again."
In Nov 2013 you were 21 (correct?)
You were born in 1992 (correct?)
You got sick in Feb 2011 (correct?)
So you were 18/19 in 2011 (correct?)
Considering one can't even be ranked a blue belt until they are 16 years old, You would have had to gone from Blue (at 16) to Not just Black, but 2nd degree black in 3 years.
Considering that a Black Belt is usually only rewarded a stripe after being a black belt for 3 years you would have had to immediately gotten your black belt at 16. And in this country ANY 16 year old Black Belt from ANYWHERE would be plastered all over the web.
I'm not sure if you are full of shit or if you are being tricked by somebody around you but either way, do what Brandon recommended. Put that black belt up for a decade or so and grab a white belt.
So maybe you were just confused, with your disability and all. Maybe your rank is in something other than gjj, bjj, or 10pjj. Thats cool, then u just compete as a white belt and change your belt here to white. Competitions dont care about rank in kempo or krav or any stuff simialr to that, you won't be sandbagging.
I suggest you make Jiu Jitsu technique vids, post them on YouTube, then post the links here. We will have no problem being honest with you. Post comp videos too :)
sounds like a bad case of bullshititus.
I vote a "Rubberguard escape" tutorial.. Those are always funny to me.
Just seen this, certainly was a fun read!
Brandon summed it all up on page 1, throw that white belt on, find a good school and start from scratch. If you really are brown belt level, your new instructor will see this in your rolls, whites don't tap purples too often.
I'm pretty sure it was Joe Rogan I heard say Diego Sanchez was a black belt, who then moved to train at another gym and started from white.
Whether or not this was a troll, bullshit attempt or if you are genuinely confused due to your illness, I wish you all the best in your journey dude.
@mjhersch
My heart truly goes out to you if it is true that you suffered such a horrible malady.
But the thing that confuses me is this:
Your long-term memory loss - from your initial description and subsequent follow-up postings - is selective only to Jiu-jitsu?
You are still a college student and you have not forgotten all the schooling that lead you to this point.
You mentioned that you want to train like you used to - yet you said you don't remember any of your training and other details,
I'm sincerely sorry if I am wrong here, but if you have long term memory loss it would not be so selective.
I know much that is written on the web can be misinterpreted and the intended meaning does not always come across clearly.
But there is so much of your tale that does not equate.
Put on the white belt, pay for a few privates with a Black Belt BJJ instructor and have him honestly assess you.
Or just put on the white belt, join a school and enjoy the journey.
I really think it is poor form to list yourself as a Brown belt here though.
I have seen people in the past that have played one school off another to elevate their rank. It never ends well.
Example: They list as a brown with 10th Planet, then go into another school and try and get them to accept them as a brown on their word alone, then go to yet another school as a brown and then use the previous as a reference. In not time flat the person goes from white to brown like magic.
But! God help that person should they actually have to spar or fight even a good blue belt. I guess if they do, they can explain their poor performance because they are coming off a horrible sickness - right?
I really, really hope I am wrong, I really do.
In any cad, all the best.
This is fucking mental.
Look, I hope I'm wrong. But I am 100% convinced that you're another poser trying to get the rewards of hard work without any hard work. I'm sure you spend plenty of time around stupid people that fall for this, but this ain't our first rodeo. It used to be the case that I would have felt bad for everybody jumping on you. But I've been burned a few times at this point and dudes like you piss me off terribly. You're looking to take advantage of people and you're gonna get somebody hurt. And if you end up (God forbid) teaching, any reasonable person who crosses your path is gonna be so disgusted by "the martial arts" as represented by you that they will dismiss as foolishness something that could have proven to be the most transformative experience of their life, had they landed with someone with even a modicum of skill or respect.
So pretty please, with cherries on top, get lost.
Ahhh the I have amnesia and can't find my instructor but in my heart I know I am Jiu Jitsu Black Belt trick....so predictable.
Who did you get your black belt from and why haven't you contacted him?
Baby steps one day at a time. Have as much fun as you can along the way and be willing to help others achieve their goals. Your doing great!
Why dont you come down to Boulder sometime and we can figure out your rank pretty quick on the mats.
We re open Monday June 9 and our address is 5721 Arapahoe Ave.
Ft Colins is less than an hour away so if you want to be 10th Planet then it makes no sense why you wouldnt come down.
