Hi everyone, I am about 6'0 and 255lbs with very broad shoulders and huge barrel chest. I've been doing GI for a couple years but am hoping to switch over to 10th planet. I'm just a little nervous that the game of 10th planet isn't going to work for a big dude like me. Any tips, advice or suggestions?
Try it… Flexibility takes time to build up, but saying I can't be flexible because I'm big is a cop out - you just need to work harder than some others. Lockdown game I imagine would be awesome for a big guy who can use his strength with leverage.
Sure you can. You may have to modify a few things until you get more flexible. Butterfly stretch every day.
It will work great I am in the same boat (6'0 and 250) just work hard and commit!
It will work. Try some positions that don't require as much flexibility (twister side control, lockdown, etc.), once you see how effective it is, you will be motivated as hell to work on flexibly for other positions.
I'm a large mammal and the half guard stuff is great. You'll get something out of it, not like you have to use absolutely everything. Just use the good bits that work for you.
If I may suggest... Grab a buddy and show up for class 20 minutes early or stay late. Practice reps of Mission Control and Lockdown. Over and over for a month. Once you can hit MC in your sleep add Zombie. Drill it with MC and LD. See how many times per 5 minute round you can hit them when rolling in class. MC and LD are your foundation. Become fearless with them. Welcome to the 10thP family. You'll love it here, the people are....exceptional.
remember as well that angles are a big big factor in the rubber guard as well as many other positions. alot of people i know bashed the RG until i showed them that by turning their hips, it becomes a very natural position.
I'm 6ft, 240 and have no problem with any of the system. Just start doing it and if you're having problems ask the forum for help. Good luck on your journey.

5'11 268 here and have 0 issues even when i was in the 300lb range lockdown path is golden as well as spider web series rubber guard i'm still working through but honestly thats just a part of the system man deff other points that can be your strong point
im 5'11 and 285, love lockdown, still working my flexibilty so i can progress to other positions. I think with any system its just finding what is comfortable and works for you.

Flexibility isn't some kind of innate talent; you have to develop it like any other physical, mental, or technical characteristic. I also commonly point out that 10th Planet isn't some kind of dogmatic exclusive cult; we use whatever works. Many planeteers never use rubber guard at all, for example.
We've got a handful of dudes your size, most of them can handle most of the system pretty well, and the one thats put effort into his flexibility (edgar) is your size but has the flexibility to do just about anything in the system. It takes more work on your flexibility-- but its still there to be had, your body still has the potential to develop all the flexibility and dexterity you will need. Its just the more you put in, the more you will get out. If you stretch twice a day everyday, when you get up and before bed (and I mean real stretch, slow, holding the positions, LOTS of breathing (breathing MAKES stretching work) and before and after training, your flexibility will grow in no time. If your willing to master your diet and trim down some inflammation (removing things like sugars, gluten) your mobility will increase a ton on top of that.
But if anything, just repping the techs constantly will improve your flexibility a bit, but real stretching as advised. Angles and shapes can replace flexibility in alot of jiujitsu :D

Your only limitation is how hard your willing to work and what your willing to put in.
Not all 10th Planet is flexibility based. In fact anything that works no gi is 10th Planet. You may have trouble doing some of the rubber guard but I have no doubt you could at least do the basic path. I've see big guys do it. Other than that all the lockdown half and truck you should have no issues with. Also really focus on the clinch. Prison Guard is awesome.Quote:
