Pffft.
Nah, but it makes me sad that Schembri's business is struggling bad enough for him to resort to this.
I love Schembri. But I take Jean Jacques' word over his. Jean Jacques is on the record stating that Eddie was the only one who made a whole system with that guard.
Nino was pulling his leg up for omoplata set ups, but he did not have a system broken down like Eddie. And Nino was not the only guy pulling his leg up. Soneca was doing that too. So he has no right to claim one set up as "his" move that was stolen. Eddie developed an entire guard system, not an omoplata set up. So Eddie has full right to name it whatever he wants to name it. As much as I got love for Nino, he sounds sour. He should just learn some marketing skills.
OK, I read it. Here's the problem. You invented the omo and gogo. Eddie didn't rename those. They're still the omo and gogo. No one stole and renamed.
Come on Elvis. Really?
These moves have been in human martial arts systems for century's . master Eddie has made it contempory for us today...
Anybody else initially read this as: "Eddie Bravo Stole My Posishes..."
Besides, we have inducted other folks' moves into the system and renamed them. Some of Marcelo's passes become M1, M2, M3, right? It's not stealing. It's not even renaming. It's assigning an internal code name.
Isn't that so?
"Look at me, Look at me"
Hmmm
I wonder how mad Jigoro Kano would be if he knew we were parading around with our "armbars" and "rear naked chokes" and "side control."
How dare we classify and systematically organize!
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go drill my rolling double wrist lock entry.
Man, whats up with Nino? Eddie always gives credit where credit is due. Eddie names many techniques in the system we love so much after the person who he saw perform it. Eddie put a SUPER effective system together, and named each posish to help organise a mind map.
Eddie should be recognised and applauded for his contribution AND IMPROVEMENT to the art of Jiu Jitsu, by the jits community as a whole!
Eddie should change his "shitty ruber guard" move to "Nino rubber guard".. that will shut him up.
This is bullshit for a few different reasons.
For one, I guess Bjj-Eastern Europe is now in the business of headline journalism. This is the TMZ business model where you try and find some sort of beef or controversy and put it in the headline to generate web traffic.
Also, there seems to be this idea in BJJ that if a Brazilian and non-Brazilian are both doing the same/similar technique, then the Brazilian was the originator because Jiu Jitsu came from Brazil. This is a weird argument, because nobody has a problem with calling the Gracie's the godfathers of Jiu Jitsu instead of Maeda, even though the Japanese were doing Jiu Jitsu long before Maeda went to Brazil. We saw this argument when the Gracie Breakdown claimed Helio was well aware of the 1/4 guard, but it didn't make it through the "Helio filter." On Joe Rogan's fight companion podcast with Eddie/Brendan Schaub, Joe Rogan dealt with this fallacy and proved it was non-sense.
But, Nino's argument is flawed for another reason. I don't think being the originator of a technique should be the focus in BJJ. For example, I haven't heard anyone claim that Ronda Rousey created the arm bar. But, she has been the most successful at finishing fights with arm bars at the highest level. Does anybody care that she didn't invent the arm bar? I would say go on youtube, how many guys from Nino's are hitting his allegedly patented guard? How many 10th planet guys have been successful using Rubber guard in mma/competition. To me, that is the relevant inquiry.
Also, as somebody who trains under Eddie, he defers to the existing terminology used in the UFC. If Nino is claiming that Eddie stole his moves and renamed them, might I ask what the original names are? What did Nino call "double bagging." What name did Nino use for the "Hindulotine?" If Nino was ahead of the curve on all these positions, why don't we remember their old names?
Also, there is the idea that 10th Planet only stands for the Rubber guard or the Twister. This is simply ignorance. Most traditional BJJ guys don't even know about the truck, prison guard, quarter guard, dog fight, lock down, electric chair, vaporizer, double c-cup, Heisman, samurai......and on and on.
The guys I really like to talk to are the guys who say Eddie stole the rubber guard from Nino and also claim that the rubber guard is a gimmic. So wait, Nino's guard was a gimmic? Wait, no no no....palm on face.
I posted this on Facebook: I herd Eddy even say that NIno was doing rubber guard before him and he didn't even know it at the time, and the way he was doing rubber guard was different, at least that's what I remember but I could be wrong. Its just pathetic to say this now after eddy is getting some fame. Its like as if he is saying that he invented his hole rubber guard system, it comes off that way when its not at all.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I de like c what eddy has to say about this. Is there a video of him talking about it? I thought I saw him say something about it in a podcast.
A guy named Kendall Shields wrote an interesting article on the gogo,
http://www.total-mma.com/2008/06/26/...the-gogoplata/
Here are a couple highlights in case you dont want to read it,
Heres a pic from Mikonosuke Kawaishi’s, My Method of Judo (”Exclusive! Masterful!”), published in 1955

Re: the gogo
"Somehow I didn’t realize until now that Kyuzo Mifune demonstrates (though does not name) this technique in his classic and essential The Canon of Judo (page 134, for those of you with the book). “Take extra care,” he cautions, “as it is easy to injure your opponent.”"
-Kendall Shields
Its too funny listening about people who are all concerned about what a move is called and who originated it, it's all jiu jitsu who cares about the specifics. You dont hear people complaining Peyton Manning renamed his audible as "omaha" or that a baseball teams has their own set of signals. Every sport has it's own terminology and each team/individual has their own meaning for them. Why is it such a big deal in jiu jitsu?
P.S. Nino should call out that Shawn Williams guy I think he stole some of his moves too
Now we have Felipe Costa Implying that Eddie is claiming he invented the lockdown. I know he doesn't mention Eddie's name but who else could he be implying?
I think there should be a fact checker for Eddie and the language should be written in Portuguese. So we could just copy & paste the site to their gossip, untrue B.S. posts and article's.
https://www.facebook.com/felipecosta...52280806974775
Eddie says in the first fucking 5 minutes of Mastering the rubberguard dvd that the lockdown is an old judo move that gene lebell showed him. Brazilians would make great reporters at fox news.
I just saw he edited it, how much did he change it from his original post?
No, No, No Mr. BMAC. Felipe complete edited the whole post!!!
I agree, that I don't believe he intended to be disrespectful. BUT, I do believe he was definitely implying Eddie!!!
Of course I can't remember how it was worded exactly. Also he didn't write Eddie's name.
Very short version...It was like..... See, this is why these guys shouldn't say they invent things. here's the video proof.
I'm pretty sure he didn't edit the thing. I saw the original also. I've been wrong before, though.
EDITED: I take that back. I've never been wrong.
Respectfully requesting what the unedited post looked like.
