Chael Sonnen vs Andre Galvao Metamoris Headliner (Rumor)

So rumors are flying around the webs about Sonnen and Galvao facing off in August for Metamoris.

I'll believe it when I see Metamoris announce it. This is going to be very interesting. And my interesting I mean Galvao is going to toy with him until he gets bored and decides to finish him.


EDIT: I just looked at the rumored card. I do hope it's more than a rumor. I don't care for the main card, but the rest looks badass.


Kron Gracie vs Benson Henderson
- Saulo Ribeiro vs Comprido Medeiros
- Dean Lister vs Josh Barnett
- Keenan Cornelius vs Kevin Casey
- Kit Dale vs Garry Tonon
-Orlando Sanchez vs Vinny Magalhaes

I would wanna see both of those guys compete, just not against each other

I think Chael would prep pretty hard for this..

On a side note. Andre Galvao is having a seminar around me in the future. However, its only a gi seminar. Ive never worn a gi and have no interest in competing in one. Think its worth going to? Anyone else attend one of his seminars?

Sure, Chael Sonnen's jiu-jitsu skills are probably underrated because of the mutliple submission losses he has on his record, but Andre Galvao is on a whole different level. This would most certainly not be very competitive, even if Chael comes in much heavier.

I say go to every seminar you can. You can always learn valuable stuff every time you go to one. Andre does awesome seminars and even if it means nothing, just throw on a gi an enjoy the experience. He's a multiplex world champ, he's gotta have something we need. I say go.

I just don't want another Ryron and Andre point-fest, or anther Brendan shaub/ cyborg. I know Chael would push the pace, and Andre would neutralize, but we all thought the aforementioned matches would go differently and they didn't

Here's the thing about main events like this. Sometimes people will pay to watch you lose. Especially a guy like Chael who is a great heel. Metamoris is about superfights and sales. Chael is a decent name. All that said, I still dont' think it's real. I think it's just a rumor even though the rumor mill keeps saying it's confirmed. Until Metamoris confirms it, it's a rumor.

But yeah, even though I don't care about the main event, I do wanna see the rest of those matches.

The only matches I'd be excited to see are Dean Lister and Josh Barnett, and Kit dale and garry tonon

Dean Lister vs Barnett? I would love to see how Dean would handle such a huge guy who is an encyclopedia of subs.
Kit Dale vs Tonon? Kit is aggressive. Tonon is aggressive. What's not to like?
Vinny's guard game vs Orlando Sanchez' top game would be fun.


But I mean, we all have our tastes. Personally, I like the line up. The only one I don't care for is the Keenan/Casey rematch.

I would LOVE to see Josh Barnett against anybody, but especially Dean. What a cool match.

i think its worth going to. maybe not for specific techniques but concepts in general would likely be worth it.

Don't get me wrong, comprido's got game, but he's not even close to being on that Saulo Ribero Level... Saulo fucks xande up on the regular, lets put that shit in persepective

mmmmm.....yeah, maybe you're right. Braulio Estima played foot in gi for 20 minutes then threw his hands up like he won. So you're probably right. Sub only only works if you have guys who like to go for subs.

A seminar with Galvao is def worth it even in the gi. I imagine you would be able to learn something that you could translate no gi.

I'll just wait until the official press release from Metamoris.

yes. You'll be bale to apply most of it to nogi anyways. He doesn't have a super grip dependent game. It's a chance to learn from the current ADCC Absolute Superfight champion which makes a strong case for him being the best nogi grappler on the planet. Certainly top 3 pund for pound by any standard. Even if it's a gi seminar it's worth it.

That was bizarre, because it's literally the only time I've ever seen Braulio go out there and not try to murder the other guy.

I don't blame him. I think BJJ is one of is loves, but MMA is what pays the bills. He gets like six figures for a fight. I doubt Metamoris is paying him that. And he has a fight coming up from what I've read. Still has the potential to be a great event. Why not?

Yes, he was going to compete at Metamoris, but his fight also got booked for August, so obviously he's doing that. And yes, his current UFC contract is $45k & $45k.

I attended one of Andres Australian seminars a couple years back.
He's awesome dude even if it's all Gi I'd highly recommend attending, he's really fantastic at putting things together.
Plus he sold me when he said

"I don't know why everyone so serious about Gi is Jiu Jitsu No-Gi is not Jiu Jitsu. I wear my Gi I do Jiu Jitsu I don't wear my Gi I still do Jiu Jitsu people are silly, Jiu Jitsu is Jiu Jitsu".
