How does grading work with you guys? Is there a curriculum, is it performance in tourneys or a bit of both? What level can grade other people?
So much difference between gi schools, wondered if you guys were a little more standardised.

Some is based on competition but knowledge of the system is the most important. Hopefully one of the generals will jump on and be able to give you more info:cool:
Thanks Brandon, how's you by the way? Surgery all done now?
Doin good. Surgery went really well and "should" be back to normal within a year or so.
Just in time for my next visit :0)
Yes sir I'll be good to go by then:cool:
Cool, be good to see you and Tyler again
Hey DC, There are some basics: Non Black Belts moon heads may only promote to blue belt (they can make recommendations to eddie for higher ranks) As far as belt levels . It varys from instructor to instructor. Here are the "Standard Requirements and Guidelines " that I use with my students:
Ranking is based on 6 categories:
1) Knowledge of the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu System and ability to demonstrate its skill sets. Student must know and be able to demonstrate all the 10th Planet warm ups for Blue Belt.
2) Ability to apply 10th Planet techniques against a resistant opponent in rolling and in competition.
3) Your ability to "HANG" with my and other belted students for the rank you're trying to obtain (If you're ranking for blue belt, you have to be able to hang with other blue belts). You don't have to compete, however there's no better way to show your skills.
4) Time in grade. General length of time to obtain blue belt would be 2-3 years, however if you compete and smash opponents with the system it will definitely make an impact and reduce the time in grade.
5) Face time, whether you bring me out for seminars, go to other seminars that I'm teaching or come train at my Academy I need to see you train in person.
6) Loyalty : You need to represent the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu System, and be loyal to your team and coaches.
I should have stated these are my requirements that were written for my long distance students. Same idea for my home students as well.
Thanks for that Chris, makes sense.
Learning all the warm up techniques and sequences is a great idea for any coloured belt, that's one of the main reasons I would visit this forum, to see the jiu jitsu specific warm ups. Are those warm ups used at every 10P gym?
Congrats on the promotion too by the way.

Not being a big fan of the traditional warm up, I have our guys flow roll most of the time to warm up, my argument is that it is the most sports specific thing they can do but I really like the warm ups you guys do, a little more structured than mine. Gonna have to steal some :0)
I really like the warm ups. It has been really exciting watching all the new guys get programmed to perform these things during rolling. Their muscle memory just takes over. Very cool.
