So let's say you're playing from the bottom. You latch onto a guy's leg, planning to take it to 1/4 and then lockdown. He knee slices, and oh no, he's really good at it. Too fast. He gets his undertook in. Now you're in 1/4 but your good options are gone. He's a few seconds from passing.
What are your remaining options?
Was looking through the MTS stuff and getting the shell down is obviously vital, but is there anything on last-ditch work if you screw it up?

All though the Ghost is my "go to" escape form side control, I still engage and battle back for the underhook in 1/4 guard, don't just give it up to Ghost. If I can secure the pimp arm I'll work mini stomp, If the pimp arm is a no go i'll then go to the Quarter Ghost as a follow up. The more pressure the easier the Ghost.
For sure. Definitely looking to run through to lockdown/double unders and all that, just thinking about what to do if Marcelo Garcia decides to slice through my guard one day (probably just tap and go get a beer.)

If the guy on top has the under hook you aren't getting his back unless he makes some serious mistakes. If you have really good hips you can use this to get to your knees or replace guard. Pushing on the head also assumes you are winning the pressure/posture battle and if he is able to control the posting arm, same as the pimp arm, you are back to square one.Quote:

Thanks Chris, I am not super good at explanations on this computer. Here is an example of what I try to do first whenever I get my guard passed and end up on the bottom. This is what I mean by not letting him get his head over the top of you body. The ghost transition is a spectacular move and a finish if you get the triangle or a headlock of some type. This more level one and a good starting point for guys like myself. :-)

you are far better off with trying mini stomps. That particular concepts is "okay" from side control, you are going to have some serious struggles trying it vs. a guys knee slicing to Judo side control from 1/4 Guard.Quote:
