Wrestling Spladle in jiu jitsu?

Hey guys, don't post much on here but I use the shit out of it so keep on keepin on. I don't train at a 10P location but proudly use the system. Alright to my question, has anybody had success with the wrestler's spladle in jiu jitsu? In wrestling you would let their head fall to the mat and rock back so they would be pinned, instead of going the wrestling route I started putting my hip on the back of their head and hipping in. Basically turning it into a neck crank/sufficating choke. The idea started about a month back when thinking about how the twister came from wrestling and it got me thinking about what other wrestling transitions could be used in jiu jitsu. I've been hitting it a lot in practice and came close in competition a couple weeks back. What I've found is it's great for countering guys shooting for singles and most guys don't know exactly what they're into until it's too tight. I've hit it in dog fight position a couple times as well when you limp arm and throw over the back, almost like an inverted truck position. Anyways I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this and if Eddie has ever covered it. Thanks

I have hit it a couple times from the feet when someone goes for a single leg. I think it has a lot of potential in Jiu Jitsu. Would love to see what the 10th planet freaks can do with it in the lab.
Interesting thought on hitting it from dog fight. I had a thought awhile back about going for it from the crucifix if they're still turtled.

Yeah it's tough from dogfight because you have to hope your opponent puts his leg over yours to drive you to your back. Haha but yeah I knew if it would catch any fire it would be from the 10th planet guys tinkering with it. Most traditional BJJ guys would just laugh it off as usual

Not really, you have to be put in it to feel just how immobilized you are. It's almost always a game over pin in wrestling.

I've used it to slide up into a toe hold a few times just messing around. It's legit.

You mean first finish? Joe Stevenson did it to Nate Diaz earlier that year but didn't get the finish. That's how I learned of this awesomeness.

Once you're on the ground in that position, If you somehow kept control of the leg that's near your head, while swimming your head through to the other side of the leg, bring the leg that you have over the back of his knee around to the opposite side of the dudes ass, there could be a rolling back take like the one Geo did at 4:19 of this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abNRxoKfZWE

I might be missing something important but it seems like it'd work, I'll have to take it to the lab. The Spladle is definitely a position I'm gonna try work on though!

I mean I guess you could but it seems like such a dead zone I wouldn't want to give it up.

Here's my other wacky idea, if the guys not tapping, you bail on the leg you're underhooking with your arm and slide it up underneath his neck and then bail on the leg your legs are hooking and you just scoop his head and slide out to north south and hold that choke. It's like an inverted north south. I haven't hit that full speed but I was playing with it last night and I don't see why it wouldn't work

I think a guilly or ninja choke would work too

You think there's any chance Eddie sees this and tries to play with it? I'd love to see his opinion or any tips he has

Drilled it today, gonna try it live this weekend. I see guillotines from there.

I used to spladle a little bit in wrestling but haven't thought about using it in jiu jitsu at all. I can't think of many times where I would find myself in a position to get there, but then again, I haven't been looking for it. I really like the position though so I'm going to start looking for opportunities.

If guys can hit it at the Olympic level, it is without a doubt legit and certainly worth using if it presents itself. If you can't finish because the guy is too flexible, it is certainly going to demoralize the person all the same. Adding new finishes off transition is certainly worth investigating as well. I posted a thread on this subject 4 years ago on the old forum and nobody seemed interested. It's cool to see that has changed.

I know this thread is a bit old but I remembered it and realized I had not shared this. Some of you may of met my daughter Morigan at the Great Lakes Camp last year. (It is important to note, there are multiple versions and ways to end up in this position. The one Morigan is using in that video is the "Cross Body Spladle" that can be done from the back. The more conventional spladle is done as a counter to the single leg.)
