I need some serious MAC tech support, anyone??

I started a thread a few weeks back about my start up disk on my MacBook Pro being full. I asked how I can redirect uploading my pics straight to my external hardrive from my camera but I'm not even sure it worked to tell you the truth. I transfered my Iphoto application to my external but I think my photos still get stored on my internal :(

Now my email application, Entourage, is saying that the space alloted for Entourage is full and that I need to start deleting files. What I do is, I have a yahoo account for all my emails, i then delete all my spam then upload my important emails to my Entourage application to manage my emails.

I know how to drag my Entourage application to my external but like with my pictures, I don't know how to make it so that my photos and emails can get directly uploaded to my external.


And is it totally lame to have a yahoo email account then I upload those emails to my Entourage application? Do people do this??

i highly recommend getting the online backup. as much as you and i travel, it REALLY makes things easy. plus after the one time of losing a laptop/external, youll be VERY happy you had it.
upload all the crap you never wanna get rid of, and youll have plenty of space for the extra things on your HD.

i am not familiar with mac, but on my pc, i go to my computer and open my c (internal) and my h (external) and i can drag and drop anything from one to the other.

i also set up my computer to automatically backup certain files to my external, you may be able to buy a program to do this or it may already come with your mac or your external.

firstly yes yahoo is not very good try gmail its alot easier to work with

as for your big issue sounds like to me you need to have some thing in place to back up all your data and keep it safe while freeing up hard drive space two words TIME MACHINE they are a modem with a hard drive built in that so you can have all your
data saved on there and you can access it with a mobile me account im pretty sure you can add another couple of externals on to the time machine as well so you could have huge amounts of storage

go down to the apple store buy a time machine get a mobile me account and that should sort you out

Problem is, that shits expensive, like $250 or something! If it were me, I'd be transferring other shit to my external and keeping my emails on the Macbook man.

Like if you have a shit load of movie/music/logic pro files, transfer those all to the external hard drive and it'll free up TONNES of space, this'll solve this and your last problem you had.

I have some shit that's like 15gb in size, and just getting rid of it or putting it on my external saved so much space. Emails take up KB's of space, you mustn't have any space at all!

So basically you want certain programs to stop saving on your internal hard drive? The way I always change that in Safari, is to click on the safari tab at the top left > Preferences > General > Save Downloaded Files to > other > then click on a folder in your external hard drive that you want to save everything to, click on select and everything from Safari will be downloaded to there from then on. Almost all Mac programs work with this same general process (with minor differences in wording), although I do not use Entourage or iPhoto.

Here's some really easy steps to follow. I also suggest the online backup...

Quit iPhoto if it is running.
Make sure your external drive is connected and turned on. In the Finder, the external drive will show as an orange drive icon in the left pane.
Open two Finder windows and position them one on top of the other as shown in the image on the right. (click the image to see it larger.)
In the top Finder window, start at your Home folder (the one with the icon of the house and your user name by it) and select the Pictures folder. Inside the Pictures folder you should see a folder called iPhoto Library.
In the bottom Finder window, select your external drive. That is where we are copying the iPhoto Library to.
Select the iPhoto Library folder from the top Finder window. Drag it to the bottom Finder window. This will start a copy process. How long the copy takes depends on how large your iPhoto library is, but it should take at least several minutes.
Now we need to tell iPhoto that you have moved the iPhoto library and where to look for it.

Tell iPhoto '11 and '09 to choose the Library

If iPhoto is open, quit it.
Go to the Pictures folder of your Home folder.
Rename "iPhoto Library" to "iPhoto Library.old". (To rename a file, click the file name once. Pause a second, then click the file name again. The file name will be highlighted in light blue and you can type to rename the file.)
Open iPhoto. You will see a dialog box like the one on the right. If you don't see the dialog box, click the iPhoto icon on your Dock. This dialog box likes to hide behind other windows for some reason.
There will be two items listed in the scroll box, one called "iPhoto Library" and one called "iPhoto Library.old". Select "iPhoto Library". (This is the one that you moved to the external hard drive.)
Click the Choose button.
iPhoto will open and you should see your photos.

Tell iPhoto '06 & '08 to look for the Library

Hold down the Option key on the keyboard and open iPhoto. You will see a dialog box like the one on the right.
Click the Choose Library... button. You will get a standard Open dialog window.
Click on your external hard drive icon (the orange one) in the left pane. You should then see the iPhoto Library folder that you copied earlier.
Select the iPhoto Library folder and click the Open button. iPhoto will open and you should see your photos.

Also, stop using yahoo... gmail blocks all that spam really well.

redban could help you pretty easily since he does a lot of video work, I'm sure he deals with a load of external storage.

Honestly Eddie I'm sorta scared of snakes. I mean one time this snake was in our house when I lived with my parents. (6 years ago) and I didn't know what the fuck to do. I said shit what do i do. Well i got up on a chair and it curled up like it was ready to fucking strike. I had went and got a hoe from the garage (the kind you shitfucking garden with) and I was fixing to strike hard and fast. I thought though that this snake had accidently entered our home and I couldn't just slay it. So I ordered everyone out of the house. I stood there on that chair analyzing the snake and talking to it for a long time. I learned a lot from what I experienced a whole lot. Finally I picked the snake up by the hoe and chunked it out the back door into the woods. This is where I'm at so far. I copied my Iphoto library to my external, then I took my Iphoto that was in my internal and trashed it. Then I secured emptied that and it's taking a day and a half to empty and it's like half way emptying, is this normal?

I am just waiting til it is done secure emptying, it could take another day or 2 at the rate it's going :(
