I'll keep this in mind against guys I know that don't double bag.
Also dat west la rashguard; can we still order those?
Rash guards are sold out.....I tried ordering one for a buddy for birthday glad I got mine though lol
That's almost exactly what I do to pass Rubber Guard. Obviously, if they Double Bag it presents new problems. But this is really strong positioning and a very effective pass.
My only difference would be that I prefer to reverse the order of the passes. I use his second option as my first option.
This was great. Shows just how hard it can be to get out of NY even without a double bag.
Demerits to the guy for not engaging the lockdown when MG passes to halfguard. ;)
The "guy" is Mike Broe, a HUGE 10th Planet fan. He's my main training partner at MG and he watches every MTS. Unlike me however, he really studies the information. A friend of mine from the academy took a picture of Mike's notes from a Marcelo class the other day. It looks like this:

Mike makes the same type of notes for the 10th Planet stuff he's working on. He was totally thrilled to be chosen to apply the RG stuff when Marcelo chose to teach that lesson. I know he's a member of this site/forum, but I don't think he really posts here.
Don't worry, I didn't think for a minute that you were dissing him or anything. It's really hard to convey tone in writing, so its easy for you to think maybe I was offended by what you wrote, or that I was writing in a certain way and all that... but it wasn't the case here. And in fact, it seldom is the case on this board. And while I'm active on Instagram (@johnricard) and Facebook, I think this is the only forum I participate in. It's the only forum where people don't end up in fighting all the time. I wish more forums were like this one.
I tried this pass after watching and it definitely slows down and impedes someone's RG progress especially if they don't know their RG transitions. I agree with BMac that part 2 is the primary and part 1 is the secondary option.
What did you say about my momma?!

Been using part B for a few years now.
Jack beat me to posting this video!
You can actually see me suppress the instinct to go to meathook to stop the pass, which Marcelo and I talked about after the lesson.
Regardless, its really cool to be holding it down for 10th Planet at the academy....with the help of Ric and Kevin Reed of course. :)
Great technique by Marcelo. I've been trying his elbow dig into the thigh lately and it's been working great.
Every guard can be attacked and passed. Every submission can be defended. Every punch and kick can be blocked and countered. If it were not true I would never loose...lol. :-)
Marcelo is king, but the one thing that stands out to me about all these passing the rubber guard videos is that you got there in the first place.
I know it's easier said than done, but I'm wondering if folks have more tips not to get broken down, how to avoid or recover if your hand its the mat.
I feel like I've heard Eddie say on his podcast that if he gets broken down he is basically trying to feed the omoplata and taking his chances from there.
Seems like being broken down into a good guy's rubber guard is like having a good BJJ guy on your back...yeah, there are escapes...but it's going to be really tough to get out without getting caught.
One of the issues with the rubber guard in
sport bjj is getting a guy into it, even to get someone in closed guard is a struggle, so many gua
guys pass standing, everyone has good posture
Watch some high level matches, guys are not getting put in closed guard that much, its also a reason the open guards are popular, people are standing, moving, etc...
Where in a MMA setting guys will be in closed guard and put there head in your chest like nothing, sport bjj is a different game
That's true, Rob. But just like everything else there are tricks of the trade in each of those guards.
Everyone knows Kron's closed guard is disgusting. So how does every dadgum match end up in his closed guard?
You'd be crazy to walk straight into Eddie's lockdown, but every roll... you end up in Eddie's lockdown.
There is a reason Eddie defaults to quarter and half, everyone has posture, guys are moving a lot
IMO (what do I know though) in this current sport bjj climate, rubber guard isn't one of the efficient guards to use
For No Gi reverse De la riva is probably the best, throw in a seated butterfly also, sweeping is more important and mobility, especially at the lighter weights
